Heads and Valve Springs

On a 2000 GT, do the heads need to be removed to change the valve springs? I'm still debating between a VT engines stage 1 or stage 2 cam and it sounds like to valve springs might make a big difference in the install cost.

Also, does 8 hours sound like a lot to change the cams? That's what the guy was quoting me on for just the cams, no valve springs. Sounded a little high to me.
 
the spring install can be done, but it is a PITA with the heads on the car. if u r going with the vt stage 1's or 2's i would say for the street go with the stage 1's. i just got some and love them. they make power all the way to 6500 too. another good thing about the stage 1's is that u dont have to change the springs
