heard a few new mustangs sounding like honda's

why with the new s197's with performance exhaust are some new stangs sounding like rice rockets. its makes me leary to modify my exhaust as i love the old hollow metal sound of the fox bodies and sn95's. anyone have anyadvice on how to avoid the ricer sound and achieve a deep throaty sound. I currently have a magnaflow axle back and am thinking about buying an xpipe but will that give me the sound i am looking for? any advice on achieving that old sound we all love would be appreciated. as well as what systems are providing this new sound so i can avoid it if possible. xpipe, hpipe, loudmouth, mac, flowmaster, what have you been experiencing and what is the setup?

x pipe will make your sound much higher pitched. if i were you go offroad prochamber from mac, so far the best sound i have heard.( noticed your in cali so that may not be an option) but usually and h will be deeper then an x. the sound of the ol sn95's and foxes are hard to get on this exhuast becuase of the setup, the mufflers are after the axle making it loose alittle of the metal sound i think your after. im not brave enough yet, but in the future i plan on taking some true flowmaster 40's and placing them in front of teh axle just after the h pipe. that shoudl give you the sound you want, and just run so pipe from where you would put an axle back, ala slp loudmouths.

Mine sounds nothing like 'rice' and I have FRPP stingers! Which if you are in Cali you cannot install legally.

I've heard every exhaust combo for the s197's known to man...I sort of feel the same way about them sounding weak. I have purchased the MAC O/R prochamber along with the Mac-Axlebacks. This is not my car but this is what the combo sounds like on a s197. I should have my exhaust vids up in a week.

I can't personally speak for anything else, but there is NOTHING rice about FRPP/Borla Stingers.

I have the Flowmaster axle backs and have noticed the "big block" sound!!!!! It is a deep rumble that does not get high pitched or obnoxious like a ricer!!!!! When my car was up on the lift having them installed, I was checking out underneath the car. The S197's have a dual gas tank where the previous bodystyles had the mufflers located. That leaves very little room for the muffler in front of the axle.

Yeah call my exhaust sound rice and you'll likely end up with either me launghing and rolling around on the floor or a punch in the gut depending on how large you are.

but in the future i plan on taking some true flowmaster 40's and placing them in front of teh axle just after the h pipe.

Be careful with heat sheilding (like make sure you have it) with this configuration.

Just listen to a setup before purchasing. The net has plenty of sound clips and what you might be looking for.
The market is flooded with stuff that is geared toward import cars or having the car sound like an import .

The only new Stangs I've heard sounding like real rice are the V6 boys running exhausts. Sound like every other V6 Honda or Nissan.

I love the old school sound of my Corsa's though. If you want that old deep machie gun sound of the 60s, they deliver, especialy at WoT.

I have JUST the Flowmaster American Thunder axle-backs, no other exhaust mods. More aggressive during daily driving than stock (not intrusive, but you know they're there), no drone even during highway cruising, sound great when you get on it. Not hollow or tinny.

I live in Tampa Bay and we have a load of GT's here. I have yet to hear a 3V with an exhaust that sounds as good as the old 302's or 2V/4V 281's. Close, but not the same.

Thanks for all the opinions guys its good to hear what setups people have and how they like the sound. I was going to go with an xpipe but have decided to go with an offroad hpipe as it will be less raspy and a little deeper. hopefully it should open up my magnaflows a little to get closer to the sound i like.

I agree..I have the same setup as you, and although I'm very happy with it, I miss the hollow sound of the older engines.

I just heard a new stang V6 that souded as if somebody ripped the muffler off and was running strait cat (like those mini trucks), souded awefull and the guy was trying to get on it; pathetic. I think he had a Flowdisaster sticker on it.
