I have a small leak in my heater core. I checked price and a new one is 25 dollars. but my question is how hard to replace? remove dash? panel under dash remove to get access to heater core like on a 93 ranger? Oh all this is on a 93 mustang lx 2.3 hatchback.

Sorry I can't help you from personal experience on this, but there are several posts in the 5.0 tech forum. I can tell you this, it sounds like a real pita to do. I wouldn't scrimp on a cheap heater core. The dash has to come out to get to it.

Get ready for this:

To get to this:

The core is located inside the box. The dash has to come out and will take some time.

That is just scary. The dash part I don't want anyone to touch beside me, but the heater core part, not entirely sure I can handle. This is going to be fun when it comes up.

Boy that looks unpleasantly familiar. I remember putting a core in an '89 GT I used to have. It took me a whole weekend and I did it in the driveway in June.....in CA. Only reason I did it in the summer is because my A/C was empty too. I had to disconnect the receiver/dryer to fix the heater and only wanted to do a recharge once.

From what I understand, the pre-'87 non-A/C cars' core can be pulled out by removing the glove box and the heater box cover. I guess it takes all of about 15-30min.

Unfortunately my SVO also needs a core. If only I had found a Comp Prep with no A/C!
