heater cores done, cleaned up and ready to go.

took a little longer then i wated...i took the time though and claned up the dash frame/fixed it becasuse it was bent and such, cleaned up things under the dash that i can tell the perviours owners of the car had messed with...i can tell that the heater core has been replaced before, there were a few missing bolts under there and when i pulled the heater core cover off i found a 8mm socket and a small flat head screw driver....and that the heater core case was filled with fulid and nasty....all i got to say is if i never have to do one again ill be fine with it...

I've been planning on replacing mine thinking it was going to fix my heating issues... but I guess I'm going to make sure everything else is working fine before I go through all that hassle. Do you have any idea why ur not getting any heat?

almost worth all that work huh! if i ever have to do mine ill just block off the hoses! i dont need heat anyway! i only drive mine in the summer! mines put away now to! but it looks like its a real bitch to do! i have never tried it but it almost looks easier to cut out a hole in the firewall! and then do it from the other side? then cut out a nice piece of stainless or aluminum and bolt it up to cover the hole! easy access, fast , no broken parts or knuckles! cause i know if i had to do it the way its suppose to be done id break **** for sure! LOL but away good job! the car looks like its coming along nice!

no idea...ive checked everything under that dang dash... idk maybe its the control..thats the only thing i havent checked...

had to be done...was leaking at least half my anitifrezze after running for 5 mins...

its a pain and I broke a few things but were fixed easy...

Y'know, you might have an idea there worth trying ... and between Frankenstang and I, we've got 3 Foxes that need heater core swaps. Hmmm ... *looks at 4" grinder with impish grin*

you would pretty much have to take the upper intake off and remove harness from the firewall.....plus that would be messing with the structure integrity of our cars in which are not the best from the factory and just making it worse...plus...if a fire ever did erupt in the engine bay that was bad it could easily come though the firewall....

its really not that bad to do...just a pita to do if you dont have enough light....it also helps to call up one of your buddys and have him/her act as the tool bitch...

you could also takea short cut and just cut the heater box open the tev it back together i guess....

Bah ... the rubber grommet for the steering column would give way to an engine fire LONG before a metal plate bolted into place would do so, thus you'll be getting flames at your ankles before ever having to worry about the fire coming in through the passengers' side of the vehicle. But you probably do have a point about the intake being in the way and all, so ... meh. Scratch that idea, I guess.

Did you make sure your blend door's vacuum actuator is functioning and the door is actually switching from hot to cold when you move the temp lever, yet?

its really not bad....its will be easier for you because you have legal access to beer......it would have made things seem to go so much faster

hey if you do try this! post some pics!of my idea! if it works and looks good we might be on to something here! if i had to do mine id try it first! if it does ever go ill be doing it that way ! and if i have to do it ill post pics!

If it's too much of a PITA, then I might give consideration to the hacking of the firewall on either the notch or 'vert to see how that goes.

One thing, though ... isn't there a bolt holding the heater core, itself, in place? Is the bolt head on the engine bay side or the inside of the heater box?

The heater core, itself, is held in with FIVE bolts? That's crazy. I guess heater cores have a tendency to come flying out of the heater box at random, or something, and they wanted to make WAY sure that it wouldn't happen. Crap, I guess that just about kills the through-the-firewall idea...

Ball joints are teh suck. Changed 'em on my notch a year ago. Destroyed a big 10" Crescent wrench in the process - almost cracked myself in the face with a pipe when it gave way.

yeah with the right tools i have never had that hard a time doing ball joints, i would rather do them then the damn heater core, thats for sure.

Oh and i can remember all the guys on here hating on ry's new car, and shi t, look at it now.Thats all i can say, i had faith in you the whole time.
