Guys I am having some issues with getting heat inside the car. Last winter it was not working very well, but would warm the car up. Then over the summer the engine temp was running higher than normal, so we pulled the t-stat and it was stuck. So we replaced it, temp stayed the same. Come to find out the fan clutch was bad so replaced it and that solved the temp issue on the gauge. Then just before Mustang Week the water pump started leaking so replaced it. No T-stat, due to it being swapped not long before.

Now trying to use the heat, there is hardly any at all. It feels like it is trying to get warm as I acell. Felt the heater core hoses and they are not real hot? First thought from our tech was how about a t-stat. I told him it was just replaced by "you" in the summer. He said well maybe there is a blockage in the block somewhere or in the heater pipes?? He said that is a guess. The coolant has and still does look very clean. Since we knew the T/s was replaced we are trying to run a coolant flush with our flush machine to see what it does. It is actually hooked up as I type.

I started thinking though. I looked at the part # of the T/S we installed and it is a hi-flow 180. Could this T/S be causing the engine to run to cool and not give off any heat? What is the O.E T/S. When I feel the hoses at the heater core they feel the same. If it had a blockage wouldn't one be hot and the other cold? Another guy at Ford said that he had a similar issue on a different car and he swapped the heater core hoses to make it flow the other way and it worked???

Any help here folks.

Okay so the blower motor for the heat in the car is working properly I take it. I've had a similiar issue and it turned out that the knob on the hot to cold was the issue. The know would turn like it was supposed to, but when I removed the knob I found that the metal d-ring was spinning freely in the back of the plastic knob so it would never a just the temp.

not the knob, thought about that. It moves very easily to the cold and the temp switches with it. I wish it would be something simple like that.

This is weird I can't see my post in the forums? But obviously you could.. hmm

Yeah mine moved very easily from hot to cold as well and that was the problem. I would pull the knob off and try spinning the metal portion of the rheostat. There should be resistance in that temp controller.

Nope just went and looked again and the knob is fine. It's all the way over to heat.

Have you tried taking the lines off the heater core lines at the fire wall and using a hose to see if fluid will flow through it.

Mine did the same thing the first winter I had my car. Take the hoses loose from the firewall and use a hose to flush the heater core out. Mine came out very brown and even had some lumpy lookings stuff in it. Flushed it for a couple of minutes before it started running clear. Just be aware that if your heater core is weak and on the the verge of leaking, you may push it to that point when you start putting pressure on it and flushing the old hung up crap out. I would also flush the hoses as well. After doing this, you could use a Prestone cooling system flush kit to help clean everything up even more. You can buy those anywhere, even Wal-Mart. Good luck with it.
