I want to set the timing at 10 degrees so that I can put my diablo chip in but the car runs extremely rich and won't idle unless it gets set to 15 degrees. Then it only runs right at WOT. No codes from the 02 sensors. Any ideas?? Could it be a tooth off or something?

Is it stupid to use a FPR to smooth out idle issues from a rich running car?

Using a FPR isnt an ideal way of doing it IMHO. Isnt that going to fart with the WOT stoichiometry, let alone mess things up as injector pulsewidth changes to accomodate the FP change?

Also, if you are in time, you are not a tooth off.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.. I have searched all over but dunno what to check. My mechanic has been all over the car. Having one more dude come over tomorrow to look at it then taking it to the professionals. The car only runs half way decent with the chip out. And only runs smooth at WOT otherwise, bucking like a bull at part throttle...Should I try getting new 02 sensors? If so, stock http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/lrs.aspx?ref=mu&gotopage=/content_50_home.aspx or other? Any recommendatioons? Thanks guys..

Does your mechanic have a scope or way to DL? I would rather do that than toss parts at it. I really doubt the O2's are to blame.

I take it the car ran decent with the chip installed before? Was the idle changed since the chip was removed? Generally raising the timing advance also raises the idle speed, so if it stalls with the chip now, perhaps just bumping the idle might help it out.

I would take copious notes of all changes you make (I have the inside cover of my manual full of notes on each change).

Random thoughts. I bet the tuning guys have some good ideas. Good luck.

Well, I just took a good look under the hood for the first time since my mechanic had it. The distributor AND cap is moved WAY OFF from where we had it when it was running (I originally took it to him to fix a short in which he did a great job). Because of this, the plug wires are not going to the cylinders they should in my o.

When my cousin gets here tomorrow, he is going to help me get it back in place. I figure I will wait for him because he has a better idea of what he is doing.
