Help electric fan relay

Hi guys i just bought a electic fan that my buddy bought for his car but he couldnt use becuse hes blower didnt allow it to fit. So i picked up the electric fan (has 2 duel 10 inch fans) it has plugs to plug it up with coming out of the fan buy i need to know what to buy to get the fan to gain power to turn on.
and also i heard you need a 130 amp alernator for it to work is this true?

The only way you are going to know for sure is to take a amp gauge hook the fan up to a battery and see how much current it needs.I picked up a Taurus 3.8 fan from the wreckers and tested it out and on the high speed setting it needs a continuous 30 amps to keep it running and much more on start up.I have another fan, a dual 11" one I pulled from an Audi and it only requires a little more than 10 amps.

what do i need?

I have the fan i just need the wire's and relay can you tell me how you set yours up?

See if your fan has a rating on it as to how many amps it needs as that will determine the size of the relay you will need and whether or not you have to upgrade your electrical system.Most parts stores and places like Summit sell electric fan wiring kits.I used a fog light wiring kit that I picked up in a discount bin for $4.99 that came with a 30 amp relay but it wouldn't be good enough for a larger fan but seems to work ok for the Audi one.

thx man little more.....

ok i got a 30 amp relay for fog lights and horn for like 4 dollars at autozone now i picked up a toggle for another 3 dollars how much wire should i buy for this project and is there any models i can look at to see how the set up on the fan should look like from the battery to the togle.

i cant find on the fan who is it made by buy it has 2 10 inch fans on it and i bought it from a buddy and i cant get ahold of him (he went to war) to see what i need. He said my stock charging system will work fine he looked at my ac delco batter and laughed and said you may need a new battery but thats it.


p.s. i have no idea about electrical like relays toggles and such if you can explain what the simpielst way to rig this beast up it would be much appreciated.

i would search threads in here - people have outlined various ways to wire it up (we need to know if you have A/C, etc, which changes how it is wired up.

the best way to run, in terms of wiring and burden on the electrical system is to use a variable controller like at www.DcControl.com

they say you can get away with less alternator to run the fan since it does not have the high start up spike and on/off function like conventional relays and switches. if you search posts by Michael Yount, he posts links to the site (like i did) and a write up he did about the installation.

Here is a link to a basic fan installation without air conditioning. http://home.wi.rr.com/montecarloss/fan.html The only downside is that since the fan is triggered by grounding the negative of the relay it can come on when the car is off.Ford 2.3 motors with an electric fan use a temp sensor that grounds when the proper temp is reached so you could adapt that for use in another vehicle.

Get a bosch 75a relay and a switch. The switch turns on the relay and the relay turns on the fan. A 130a alternator is needed for this. You could do that dc thing too, but I prefer simplicity.

one could add an extra SPDT relay to the control ground side so that the ground can only complete the circuit when the car is on.
