Help, electrical something...

I've posted once before but get a Aerostar van alt. The vans with all the rear a/c have stock 180amp, AND!!! they bolt right into a fox not mods needed, WORKS AWESOME! I have one in mine.

what do you mean by mods arent needed? like you dont have to cut to make space for it to fit? or you dont have to buy any wires?

Install a high current alternator using the stock wiring and you will become a casualty.
The first series of big booms from the speakers will probably set off a current surge that will ignite
the stock wiring and the rest of the under hood wiring. The stock wires are rated at 65
amps in a cold engine compartment. Push 90-130 amps through them and they will catch fire.

i guess that 180 alt fits perfectly with out having to cut/make space for it.
jrich a 130 alt should be fine for say a 1000 watt stereo setup? it will be 2 10s, 1000watt amp. crossover and maybe a 300-400watt amp for the rear speaker but also will have a 2 farad cap.

not to hijack the thread, but jrichker, couldnt you just update the wiring and us the alt from the aerostar. they are big in junkyards and have alot more amps to them. plus its a direct drop in. i was about to do a 3g upgrade. but if i can do the aerostar one that would be huge! would i still use the 4g wiring or would in need something different? and the wiring from the fox matches right up correct?

also...what year aerostar do you have to get it from...or a reman from advanced or something along those lines....im very curious

Basic electricty: volts x amps = watts
14 volts x 130 amps = 1820 watts.
Subtract approximately 600 watts needed to run the car on a cool, dry sunny day and you have 1220 watts.

If you have an electric fan, all the figres go out the window. Startup surges on electic fans without a DCControl for the fan can reach 100 amps.

Thanks to all those that helped. I finally had a chance after 4 straight 15 hour work days...The fusable link had a inch section where the wire had melted out of the insulation. It was not visible from the outside. Runnin great again...
