When i release the clutch i here a clunk from the rear end. i had 4.10's installed a couple years back and have maybe 7,000 miles on them. i had all the bearings and seals replaced. i don't know alot about rearends but could all my bearing have seated and my rear end need reshimmed.

I jacked up the car thinking it might be my u-joints so i turned the driveshaft with the e-brake on and out of gear and i could rotate it alot. If anyone can help me please chime in.

a couple of years and only 7k miles? i wish my wasn't a dd. Oh and gears dont really just go bad all of a sudden unless you find it happens under WOT and there is serious carnage. Possibly something loose, not nessisarily broken.

ok i was reading on some past post and someone said that they replaced all there seals and bearings and after 400 miles had to reshim the rearend because the bearings had seated more. could mine need reshimmed or am i looking in the wrong direction here

Clunking noises from under our 'stangs is pretty normal . . . but, it's certainly possible that something isn't right. Have you considered the possibility that you may have damaged a torque box? Did you run over something? I'd get under it again and give the suspension a really good look.

It's possible that the bushings in your control arms are shot. How many miles are on the Car? My Son's '04 disintegrated the upper control arm bushings, there wasn't anything left but the steel sleeves!

One guy here had similar noises as you and finally found that his upper control arm bushings had worn out too.

ive been having some sort of rear end clunk too but mine started right after the rear end build. somthing to do with that prob.:nonono: i just havent investigated it yet.

i have heard about the control arms and the brushings though, you should check those out.

well this is no little clunk, this is more like a noise when a u-joint is going out, right before it goes. i checked to make sure it wasn't the u joints, i know its something in the rear end itself.

since i had 4.10 put in it with all the bearing also changed could it be possible that the bearings seated more and the carrier needs reshimmed.

Also thanks for the advise on the upa's and lca's the bushing do need replaced soon but the noise i'm hearing is not those.

One more pic - they were all split, some sides and some ends worse than others. Honestly, part of the issue might have been my install. Lesson #1 - don't torque the bolts til the car is on the ground. Otherwise, you can bind the bushings and end up like mine. Again, I'm not sure this was the case, but I do know that I did not follow lesson #1 above. I certainly did on my 2nd install with the Hotchkis arms (the only arms available locally on a Saturday morning).
