I just swaped out my stock intake with an frpp cobra along with a bbk cai. Since the install my car runs a little hot at normal driving conditions but when i get ont the gas it heats up. I also noticed that it doesn't accelerate as fast as it used to. So i double checked the timing and set it at 14 advanced. Still it didn't help much. I also tryed putting a 160 degree thermostat. Still the car gets hot when i floor it. I also noticed that there is a small oil leak thats coming from the passenger side. What do you think i did wrong. The car idels fine and doesn't sound like its missing. My car is stock (94 gt 5sd) except for 2 chamber flows. What do you think i did wrong?

I just checked the oil and it looks normal. It doesn't look creamy and its preety thin looking. I retorched the bolts after driving it around the block. Still no change. However right after install is when it started acting up. Do you think its passing coolent through the gaskets? I've only driven it about 20 miles since the install do you think it would make the oil look creamy that soon?

No i'm sure that i put it in correctly . And i know there is coolent going to the engine because i removed the heater hoses buy the firewall to make sure it was getting water.

Is your coolant level dropping? If you have a coolant leak, the overflow tank will become empty.

What heads do you have? I had some issues with a Cobra intake not playing well with TFS TW heads due to port sixe differences. Switching to the TFS intake solved my problems.

No my coolent level isn't dropping. I have stock heads on the car. I just don't get it when i drive normally its fine but when i floor it it starts to overheat. Do you think I could have a cracked head?

If your coolant level isn't dropping, then you do not have a leaky gasket or cracked head. It seems to me like you're having flow issues. Are you sure you used the correct intake gaskets and didn't put them on backwards? Did you scrape a bunch of old gasket material into the block? If so, your water pump vanes may be partially covered or your radiator cores may be blocked. You need to verify the temp at the radiator and in the block with "real" gauges to get a better idea of what's going on.

It sounds like you have air in the system if the level isn't dropping. Put the front end on jackstands so the radiator is the high point in the system, and work on getting all the air out. As far as being down on power, have you checked for any vacuum leaks?

The first thing I would do is run a cylinder balance test and make sure you didn't screw up the fire order, or a wire may have broken internally, or something!

Second, go over every vacuum line, and make sure everything is connected. You have have forgot to plug one of the holes underneath the upper intake and it's just sitting open. Remember, there are vacuum ports on each side of the upper intake.

I just took it for a good drive on the freeway it did great. However on the street it started to overheat again. I got hot and checked the coolant level and it droped drasticly. So i'm assuming i have a coolant leak. Now my question is what part of the cooling system could i have messed up whiel installing an intake. I rechecked the oil and it still looks normal.

check oil again if it is milky the intake gaskets are leaking,

But it does sound like you have air in your system. check your radiator make sure its full.:nice: what I did to get air out was take the coolant temp sensor out filled rad till coolant came out of the where the sensor waS then put it back it. :nice:

I also dont think your fan is coming on when it suppose or at all.:nice:

are you showing visable signs of leaking under the car??????? are you blowing white smoke out of the tail pipes while accelerating??????? and after driving does the top radiator hose get hot and hard meaning the system is flowing and holding pressure???? it will not hold pressure until the air is completely out of the system..i did the same swap last week with no problems....

you need to burp the system. it wont blow it out of the overflow. you might also want to double check the vacuum leaks. if it isnt running faster, something is wrong aside from the heating issue. your timing sounds wrong as well.

How do i burp the system? The upper radiator hose doesn't fell hard of doesn't feel like it has pressure under it. I turned it on this morning and noticed it was leaking in the back of the motor. I checked the heater lines to make sure they were secure. What other area could it be leaking from. I also rechecked the oil and it looks normal. The coolant in the radiator was low but not empty. So I refilled it drove it around and it did fine for a while. Than soon after it started getting hot again. I drove home and parked it. Then let is sit for a while and the coolent was low again. The upper radiator hose doesn't fell hard of doesn't feel like it has pressure under it. Rechecked the oil and its still fine. If i drain the coolant out and refill it would it take out any air thats in the system?

sounds like the lower intake is leaking from the back .... the back and front ports circulate coolant if these areas are not cleaned properly or if the gasket is installed improperly or moved during install it will leak.i have circled these ports in red. sounds like the problem your having is the rear coolant ports are not sealed properly....
