I have a 351w in a 65 Mustang. I was changing out the oil dipstick when the stick broke off in the block. But it gets worse part of the block around the hole that the dipstick goes into actually cracked off comepletly. The missing piece is still covered up by the dipstick that goes into the block. I was just wondering if I can still use the block or if it is trashed now, I quite messing with it for fear mor could pottentially break off.

Thanks for the help.

I believe the dipstick attaches to the timing cover, not the block itself.

If you can keep it from leaking you are probably OK, worst case you would need to replace the timing cover.

Someone more familiar with 351s needt to confirm this.

Yeah, it'll fit, but I don't think the 92 cover has provision for the dipstick.

It should have a flat boss there, and all you need to do is drill a hole. That's what I did to mine.

But that cover will only work if you already are using a reverse rotation water pump and pulley/belt setup. If you're not, you need an older timing cover.

68stang351,
According to Ford Racing techs, reverse or standard rotation pumps don't matter as far as the timing cover is concerned, as long as:
A>The D/U shaped holes in the water pump rear plate match the timing cover
OR:
B>The water pump rear plate has round holes, which is how many after market/rebuilders sell them, now, to maximize application coverage for each part number.
