Need your help guys. My car is at the speedshop now. The guys there want to throw on a set of Mac l/t's and a pro-chamber midpipe. They say it is a great mod and they have had a lot of success with it freeing about alot of horse's on 96-98gt's. With a good tune and chip they think they can net me about 50rwhp. I know the car needs a tune bad because it runs alittle rough after the pi intake install. My best run thus far has been a 14.4 at 96mph with 2.1 60ft with the mods in my sig. Im sure the car is capable of better if it was tuned better. My question is do you think i should go for the headers midpipe labor tune and chip which will cost about 2000 or just get the tune for now which is 699 for a diablo chip and dynojet tune for 8hrs dynotime. Please give me your advice b/c i need to make my decision by morning.

Thats what you get for that price. Im sure it wont even come close to taking that long. But my question is more about the headers??? Are they worth the money and power they say they are??

In my opinion that price is a very high estimate for a long tube install with a tune. Buying the parts and installing them should cost you no more than 650 or so since the MAC's sell for about $220(?) from Summit. I wouldn't have that shop install those headers till you get prices from other shops in your area.

Is the intake the only PI part you have? I'd spend the money on cams and heads before i got LTs, but thats me.

If money is no object, get the LTs, midpipe, and soon thereafter get PI cams/heads (or something more aggressive like VT cams and some serious headwork).

I wouldnt expect over 20rwhp from headers, maybe 35 with headers/midpipe and a tune.

You will get charged more for labor if you ever need to pull the tranny by having the MAC's on the car. Don't let anyone fool you, you can take out the tranny with enough twisting, you don't need to loosen or take off either header.

both those prices sound high, and 50 rwhp from lt's, midpipe, and a tune? I'm thinking more like 25rwhp. Sounds like the shop is trying to pressure you into paying them too much money.

Yep, Id probably go somewhere else after this. My L/T, midpipe, and clutch install was a good bit less than $2000. Not to mention youll only need about an hour or so on the dyno unless there is a ton wrong with your car. Even then, I dont see any shop taking 8 hours to do a tune on a street car
Also you will only see about 20-25hp gain with L/Ts and a midpipe. No way you will see anywhere near the 50 they are quoting

I would wait until you get more air flowing through the motor. You have the intake already. Now just put some cams in. You will get more out of the cams then the LT. To be honest with you I would not even think you will see an increase over 20rwhp with the LT and tuned compared to the X-pipe you have already.

If that shop needs 8 hrs to dyno tune your car, you should run away. Fast! Also...don't pay more than $400 for LT install. You could almost put a used blower on the car for $2000.

Maybe a dumb question, but I haven't needed a tune yet. Why would he need a Diablosport chip with a tune? Can't they just reflash his ECU?

Yup. See my sig for where to get your EEC reflashed for FAR less than these people want to charge you for a tune.

Personally, I'd get the heads & cams before longtubes.
