HELP! May have gotten screwed on sportsman block

I have a buddy who just bought a "sportsman" block out of the local classifieds for $500!!! I saw the block but to me it looks exactly like a 302 production block. The guy painted it black it looks like. Is there any way to tell difference from outside or are the differences internal structure?

sprotsman block whould be a four bolt main..............easy to tell only other thing is it is made of better metal..........

so if a motor was completly buttoned up and installed it would be hard to tell difference from a sportsman and a production block? because he already has it assembled I didnt see it unassembled.

The sportsman block or the B50 is not a 4 bolt main block. In the 8.2 deck hight blocks, there are the stock roller block the B50 sportsman block The A4 and the R302, the B50 sportsman block has about 7-10 lbs more metal in the main area and the caps are a little thicker, easiest way to tell is look for the B50 casting #!
