Help me add to the parts list, Dart based

I want a low-mid 10 sec. eventually....

Dart 347 shortblock $4295(does anyone know where to get it cheaper? Maybe with the dart sportsman?)
trickflow H/C/I package $2000
used 65 or 70mm TB $75
maf $125
used shortie headers $75
31 spline axles $250
subframes $50(ebay cheapies)
30 lb. injectors $200
fuel pump $110
heavy duty clutch $150
h-pipe $0 (allready have)
flows $0 (don't want to spend extra on a catback right now)

I want to keep the stock brakes(I drive like an old man on the street). Stock suspention, stock gear(can change later), stock transmission. I know the parts above wont go 10's but I can add stuff later. The dart would give a good base to work asround though.

Suggestions?.....parts I left out?....

I am sorry that I dont have any input for you with your motor, but please reconsider building your motor before the suspension and brakes. IMHO the stock suspension is not all that great dealing with the factory power, and the stock brakes are not at all adequate for the stock power.

Yeah, I totally understand what you're sayin'.

The thing is....I've never had a problem with the stock brakes before...if I drove hard I can see how they may be dangerous. At the track you've got plenty of room.

About the suspention...I've seen guys on here cutting 1.6 60's with stock suspentions....so I might give it a try and add stuff later if I need it.

just a question for you. why do you spend almost 7k on block, and trickflow kit but want used and cheap parts for the rest of the car? not trying to start an argument i was just wondering

I agree why spend 2k on a nice block then buy all used junk, save your money and buy everything new there for you wont have anyone to blame when something goes wrong!!!

It's not that I want cheap parts, but the brakes and suspention would add to cost. I would rather put the money that I have toward the motor and work around that. A well built motor should last 100k miles, so I would have more than 5yrs. to upgrade the rest(not that it'll take that long)

Besides, the brakes and suspention work fine for daily driver duty. I've seen people with 10 sec. daily drivers using the stock brakes.

The other parts are cheap? I mean, what's the big deal about buying used parts?....a tb is a tb is a tb...same with the other parts.

why not try a level 10 block from dss its a lot cheaper. or have rick91 build you one?

i second the Dss shortblock. You can go 10's way cheaper than with that expensive block your wanting. Just get some of the people here to draw up their plans for a 10 sec car and pick and choose what you like and dislike!

The dss shortblock was my plan all along, but then I changed my mind recently. What happens when I want to add a blower or turbo and make 600+ rwhp....then the stock block would crack and it would be $2500 down the drain.

The Dart block should be the last block I'll ever need.

the dss is not a stock block. i believe its their level 10 or level 20 block. those blocks can hanfle the power your after

sequence of events for a young eager racer:

1.wants to go fast!
2. more you spend faster you get...spends and spends and spends
3. gets married and juggles finances to go faster.....
4. along comes children and between that and marriage puts strain on going fast.
5. sells off fast car and starts over with stock mustang again.
6. realizes going as fast as you can is cool but that its not the most important thing in history!
7. settles for a quick mustang and lets all the rich kids waste they're college funds, and has a great life!

The DSS LEvel xxx blocks are nothing more then a glorified stock block, with extar machining. They will still split straight up the middle where they are weak, it is only a matter of time.

PERSONALLY, if your looking at making more then 450RWHP I would strongly recommend an aftermarket block. After paying for 2 stck blocks to be machined and built, not counting pulling and reinstalling the motor you could have bought a DART based motor. It will be the last thing you ever need...

Now if you are planning for a blower I would go 331 not 347. The TFS heads are a good choice but the cam is a waste of money for your stroker. I woudl go TFS, AFR 185, RPM II or HOLLEY Systemax II intake, custom cam or atleast a good off the shelf blower cam. The rest of your parts list doesn't look so bad, if you buy parts used just make sure they are in good working order. Nothing wrong with saving a little money here and there.

I prefer to work with NEW injectors and MAF however, a 80mm MAF Professional Mass Air Systems would be my choice.

Hey Rick, I think these guys are referring to the DSS X and XR shortblocks which use Dart Sportsman and Iron Eagle blocks.
