I need to rebuild my roller cam 351w due to a bad rod bearing.

So, I want a 450hp street motor that will last and last.

Money is TIGHT.

What to do and who to buy it from?

The amount of informative replies you receive are closely related to the amount of information your provide in your initial post. Since no one has any idea what modifications you have done to your present motor it is difficult to suggest what it needs to reach 450hp.

That said, are you just running a stock 351w with a roller cam? Also, what is your budget? If you have a stock motor and only $500 for example, 450hp is going to be difficult to achieve.

i have one thing to say dont build it if you dont have the money it will drain you build it once and build it right any shortcuts you take will take you will pay for in the end

I have a 1996 roller 351W with Edel RPM intake and Heads, Trick flow stage 1 cam, Quick Fuel Provac 750 carb, had stock rods with arp bolts and stock pistons. I have Ford racing SFI balancer, Ram billet flywheel, yada,yada...

Anyway, a rod bearing has ***** the bed! 500miles on this combo and now it is time for rebuild.

So, I can get my RPM heads ported by a friend's builder.....don't have the cash to upgrade.....or do I.....hmmmmm...Vic Jr's would be sweet.

Anyway looking to go 393 or 408, BUT I certainly won't shy away from a 357.

Throw me your thoughts.

i know eagle and scat both sell stroker kits for the 351w you might want to check them out. Or even dss, as tehy sell the stroker kits also.

what happened to your rod brg?? i would build a 427 that sounds good.you should see an easy 450 hp with it. but if moneys tight you might want to get a motor from a wrecked car to hold you over.

I say cast crank 408 if you dont plan to race it and you keep the revs under 6200. Forged 393 if you want to shift at 7000. Possibly forged 408, but that HP level will be blowing the block apart at 7000+.

If money is tight (not sure what your budget is) that cast 408 kit I PM'd you about awhile back would be a good way to go...

Not real sure.....bottom end is in engine bay awaiting my removal.....had #7 piston tap on my aluminum head after a few hard 6000rpm rev limited (msd 6al) runs. It was a completely fresh motor with 500 to 600 miles on it.

There is slop in the rod bearing, so it needs a rebuild.

This is in my completely restored 67 GT coupe. (Dartman....just one of my numerous toys....so numerous, I drive it three or four times a year! Hence the need for a simple economical engine).

I would like to keep it to 408 max....too much piston speed....I want something dependable that I can ride hard and put away wet.

Everyone and their grandma is selling 408's.......BUT most people are selling chinese cast stuff.....I am wondering how this stuff stands up?

I was looking to get manley or crower rods, manley or je/slp pistons, and I am hoping for a forged crank with King bearings all around.....but I will need to see what that combo comes in at....got a feeler out for that one now. I actually should be able to get that stuff balanced for about $1500.00.

pro power make a good cheap kit but its cast going to get for my truck dont run it hard just need some more torque...starts at $799.00 then goes up depending on upgrades...
