Well, I'm getting married in october so I better do it now lol. Iam replacing my heads on my 357 windsor. I have narrowed it down to 3 choices. first off...supporting mods I have acquired
80mm mass
90mm tb
anderson power pipe
TFS R 351 90mm intake
longtubes 1 7/8 w/ 3" collectors
HEADS?
1. TFS Fast As Cast 190's (awesome bargain)
2. AFR 205's
3. TFS tw 205's
* I am buying a new cam too...depends on which head I buy, I don't think I can wait for a custom cam, so if you have a good cam recommendation with a particular head, let me know...
*Street/strip car, 3:73's/tremec 5 speed.
If you were in my shoes...which heads would you buy...$ is a factor!

Also...will my 30lb jectors be enough still? Thanks members!

All of that stuff looks too big. I see a lot of lazy air in your future.

80mm MAF but a 90mm TB?? What's that about?

How do you manage to install flange bolts on 1 7/8 headers?

Were I you, I might look at the specifications and recommendations of a complete induction kit (i.e. Holley Systemax or Trick Flow) and size your choices similarly.

Final though: 30 lb injectors will be fine. It's everything else that appears too big. Looks like a nice induction system for a power adder though. :nice:

I have a 75mm tb as of right now, maybe the 90mm is a bit big, but the heads Iam deciding over are not too big. The headers are the least of my worries. Thanks for the chime in though :nice:
Right now, the fast as cast is what Iam leaning towards because they are such a great deal. I just talked to Rick @ AFM, if I go with the FAC heads he is recommending a N-61 for better driveability, or the N-81 for most up top hp but poorer driveability down low....oh decisions decisions

None of that is too big! You can let that go. How can you say the airflow will be lazy, when the cam is not decided? You can't! The cam has control of the air flow through an engine.

I'd go with the TW 205 if buying new.

But, the TW Fast as Cast are badass and a real good price. They are hard to beat. In reality, the Fast As Cast 190's have dang near the same CSA as the AFR 205's. But the TW head has a better vavle placement and angle. So you do the math.

Simple... large induction, likely stock displacement and compression, likely a street vehicle. So unless you plan to run at 7K rpm down to the grocery store....

The point is that parts appear to be a mismatch, thus the suggestion to look at pre-packaged kits and see what their recommends are.

just to clarify...10.5:1 motor, 357 cid...I'm considering the fast as cast, I figure @ $1399.00 If I want more, I have heard there is plenty of material on those heads for a steller port job next year. So far they are winning. Now I know these heads have not been around for that long, but right now Iam looking at
TFS fast as cast 190's
TFS R 351 intake w/90mm opening. (I have a 75mm tb now, should be ok initially)
AFM B-61 cam or B-81 if I want to rev it more?
80mm mass
long tubes
Can I do better, or does this sound like it will get me to the "grocerie store"?

Then I take it all back. At 10.5 compression I'd prolly go with the larger of the sets of heads unless you know someone that can do the machine work cheap (and correctly).

Are the valve sizes the same for both sets of heads?

--and--

Are your pistons fly-cut to accomodate all of your potential head choices?

You can not be to big on throttle body or air meter, all of that is before the air enters the intake manifold and has no impact on velocity inside the engine. Cylinder head, intake manifold and MOST importantly camshaft will dictate airflow velocity. A stock 5.4L F-150 has a 90mm maf and a 88mm throttle body, and that engine is only 331 cid. One other point. Valve notches in the pistons is not a concern regardless of the cylinder head that is going to be used, UNTIL the camshaft is picked. Then and only then are valve notches in the pistons a concern, and only then if the duration is going over 220 @ .050 or you are running some crazy LSA. (Lobe Seperation Angle......aka "overlap")

the 205's MIGHT have 2.06/1.60 valves.....not sure tho. I do not know if my pistons are notched or not and I do not know if my tuner @ C&S motorsports can notch them for me....best case scenerio would be bolt on and go.

DontGivaRatz: So you are you trying to sit here and tell me that because of the size of the heads, it has to be spun to 7K? Dear lord!

Heads are not the only factor for RPM range. Way to many varibles. So its not that simple.

I am partial to the AFR's. I was wondering whether or not to go with 185's or the 165's. So, i opted for the 165's comp ported with upgraded springs.

Maybe give the 185 comp ported a look?

They are all good tho. good luck!!
