What are you going to do with the car? Will it be for crusing, daily driver, drag strip or autocrossing?
Will it be a mixture of any of the above? If so, what are the percentages of each type of use?
What kind of budget are you planning on?
Can you work on the car or will you need to have a mechanic do it for you?
If you are going to do the work, what other cars have you worked on that are EFI?

The 350 Rear Wheel HP on $2000 will only be possible if you find someone desperate to unload his stash of parts like
aluminum heads, intake, stroker kit, etc.

Or someone who will sell you a centrifugal supercharger kit. Without pressurized
induction or NO2, you won't make 350 RWHP with a 302 and still be able to comfortably drive it on the street.

New aluminum heads with all the springs, rockers, gaskets, push rods, bolts, etc - new price is $1200-$1600
New intake manifold - $350-$450
New throttle body - $175-$250
New MAF $175=$250
New cam and lifters $250
New transmission - the T5 will be toast in about 2 weeks after soaking up 350 RWHP in aggressive driving. Plan on spending
$1000 for an upgrade T5 gear set or $2000 for a Tremec TKO 500 transmission.
Rear end gears 3.55 or 3.73 gears will cost $200 plus another $150-$250 to install them.
Plan on another $500 to stiffen up the suspension and some brake improvements.

if you convert to carb, you will not pass emissions testing. In some states you cannot
sell the car and title it for street usage if you remove the emissions equipment. If there
is no emissions testing in your state, this is not a problem.

Here's a book that will get you started with how the Ford electronic engine control
or "computer" works.

Ford Fuel Injection & Electronic Engine Control 1988-1993 by Charles Probst
:ISBN 0-8376-0301-3.

It's about $25-$35 from Borders.com see http://www.amazon.com/ . Select b...ry good, and I found it to be very helpful.

Go back and read the parts price list I previously posted. The $2000 budget isn't going to happen with new parts or used parts in very good condition. In addition, the list, you will need some bigger injectors at $250-$300

You never said if you wanted 350 HP at the rear wheels or 350 HP at the engine flywheel. There is approximately 20% loss in the drivetrain, so 350 RWHP works out to be 437 flywheel HP. I will use the 350 RWHP as the definition

You get N/A HP either by increasing the RPM that you make peak torque at or increasing the cubic inches. Or you can do both.

Engines that turn over 7000 RPM to make peak torque have very little low end torque and are not good to drive on the street. A 302 cubic inch engine that made 350 Rear Wheel HP would probably turn over 7000 RPM to make peak torque. That means you either have wall climber rear gears like 5.71:1. Or the engine lugs and never makes decent power until you get above 38 MPH in 1st gear with stock 2.73:1 rear gears. Around town performance would be poor and gas mileage would be terrible. Imagine driving 30 MPH around town in 1st gear just so the car would not fall flat on its face when you mashed down on the throttle.

The big cubic inch from a stock 302 block is limited to 347 cu in by bore and stroke limits of the block. You can only overbore .030” and stroke .4” additional before you run out of room in the block. A 347cu in engine will make 350 RWHP, but it will still need to develop some RPM’s before the engine starts to pull hard.

Yep...go 351...if you cant buy heads right now then get stud rockers and a more aggressive cam...injectors and a 351 efi intake. Do the heads later if you have to....you'll have fun with the torque. EBAY will make this plan work. You can use stock rails....just cut the crossover hoses and use some fuel hose to extend it for the wider intake.

If you already have a 351 at home you can get it in your car running for $2000.....then next time you come across $2000 change the heads. But you should devote the cash on your 351 project on the Intake manifold, Throttle body, MAF, Rockers, Cam, Swap oil pan.

It's not a roller but you can still run EFI on it. The computer does'nt know or care if it's a roller or not. If you replace the cam use a flat tapet cam or convert over to a roller.

Can it be a solid lifter cam?

The cam in the 351 right won't be but you can replace it with a solid lifter if you want. You can run any cam lifter combo you choose. The EFI won't care.
