I never really understood how you get more power with more timing. If I am understanding correctly, then if I use 93 octane, and advance my timing I will get more power. But how much more on average?

I run 87 octane I forget what my timing is at but it might be around 14* I'm going to check it in a few mins....

If i were to run a higher octane, which way would I turn my timing up? Is the lower the numerical degree, the more timing, or is it the higher the number??

Different combos and different motors like the timing in different places. Best place to do this is at the track. Make a pass, move it one or two degrees and make another. This will only tell you whats best if you are consistent with your car already.

Bigger numbers equal more advance, until you get to TDC, but you will never get that far. If you detect any pinging, you have gone too far. I stay at 10*, better gas mileage there. I will play with it at the track though.

Oh, I see you have pinging already, back that timing off, you are hurting the power when it pings, and hurting you engine. Try 12* BTDC.
