Hey guys,
I'm going to rebuild my 302 this winter and have an idea of what I want out of the engine. I'm in the planning stages now and will start buying parts as early as next week. Let me start with my final goals.. Where I want the car to be in 5 years, let's say.
I want to be running a Junkyard Twin Turbo kit. I have one turbo already and right now am 'preparing' the car for the HP I hope it will have. By that I mean suspension, getting the engine freshened up, brakes, subframes, that kind of thing. Here's what I have so far:
Full length subframe connectors
Walbro 255 LPH high pressure pump
NX 100 shot wet kit, with proper plugs, timing.
Equal length BBK headers, Mac H pipe (off-road), and Flowmaster after-cat.
one Thunderbird TC .63/.60 turbocharger, rebuilding it now.
KYB AGX shocks and some springs from somewhere will be winter additions.
Anyway, I'm going to be doing the majority of the 302 rebuild myself. My budget is $1500. That isn't much, I know, and I don't expect a fully race-prepped motor for that. I want something to run 5-6 PSI without any issues. Not 15 PSI.
That being said, here's what I have in mind:
New GT40 turbo swirl aluminum heads
Some turbo - happy cam
Port stock upper and lower (I know, bottleneck, but that's the easiest to upgrade later with the motor back in the car.)
ARP head studs
all new bearings, oil pump, seals, rings, new water pump, balancer, etc..
Block hot-tanked, honed and decked if necessary
new clutch (brand, not sure- suggestions?)
stock pistons, rods.
MAS conversion for the cam and turbo later on(already have a stock MAS, wiring harness, just need A9L or P.)
Kirban AFPR
What do you guys think? Is this a good plan, or should I look for some used heads and used intake? I don't want rear gears 'cuz from what I've researched, with a turbo that spools quick you'll wind the engine out very quick with some 3.73's or 4.11's. I'm looking at the final goal, remember..
Please make suggestions, etc. Like I said this is the PLANNING stage, nothing's final..
This is my first mustang, but NOT my first engine rebuild. I want to do it right.
