help me REDO my a/c system. i want it ICE ICE cold

My 25 cent explaination of how air conditioning works...

First, the compressor compresses the refrigerant into a hot gas. The condenser is up front of the radiator, and it is supposed to condense the hot gas from the compressor into a hot liquid. The hot liquid goes to the expansion valve located in the tubing next to the firewall. The expansion valve lets the hot liquid expand and become a cold gas, the cold gas goes to the evaporator inside the car where the fan blows on the evaporator exterior. The heat transfer from the air inside the car to the cold gas inside the evaporator causes the A/C to blow cold air. The now cool gas goes to the compressor where it gets compressed again into a hot gas and the process starts all over again. Keep in mind that this is a closed system, and the gas inside the A/C doesn't get out unless there is a leak.

Plan on replacing the dryer (aluminum canister on the passenger side firewall) cost is about $100.

Recharging the system with R12 (if you can find someone to do it) will run $120-$180 for R12 & labor. They don't make R12 anymore, but some auto A/C shops still have some hidden away.

I wouldn't buy A/C parts from Jegs, they probably are not Mustang specific. This means they may or may not fit. Check out Autozone or Advance Auto parts or even the junkyard.

The alternative is for you to assemble everything and then take it to a professional auto A/C shop and have them vacuum it down charge & leak check it. That's probably about $100 worth of parts & labor.

Hey man where you from? Im between Gainesville and a small southern town called LaBelle near Ft Myers. I am having the same issues right now. It has been wicked hot here lately. 102* yesterday on my front porch, and today was just alittle cooler at 98*. My black stang gets warm all day and is toastin when I get in it to drive. I want Ice AC too! Good Luck.

I know your feeling. Its ^pm now and its still 98* out. Nuts! Ill shiver anyday compared to this. I cant even wash my car without taking a shower afterwords. Nuts. Stay cool!

is your whole stock system in? if so go out and hit the shrader valve with a screwdriver or sumthing if it hisses,(as long as you havent opened it up) its still hold pressure, empty it out(any means necessary although not legal) go to wal-mart or autozone and buy a r134 retrofit kit 35 bucks follow directions, enjoy, if it leaks out oh well only 35 bucks!
