hey guys,
well the track has been closed for a couple months now and I'm not real impressed with my times so far.
I have the following mods: AFR165s, cobra intake, 11:1 compression (from a fresh rebuild), x303 cam, prom 77mm MAF, 30lb injectors (big i know, but i needed new ones right away), fuel pressure regulator (to lean out the big injectors a little bit), 65mm TB, and 3.73s with ET streets.
My best time so far has been a 13.4@100 mph. The track here is about 4800 feet above sea level and has been known to be a crappy track, but I would still like to have a better mph. I know my car is a pretty heavy sob since I ran it like I drive it to work.
I don’t have a lot of money to drop into it this summer thanks to college, but here's what I'm thinking:
Ditch the C-springs (wanted a nimble ride, but that’s changed). I figured this would help with my crappy 1.8-1.9 60s. Any suggestions as far as a streetable "drag" coil?
Go with an Ed cam, figured the x303 is hurting me and not giving my combo all it’s got.
Get a performer RPM to replace the cobra intake (anyone have any comment on that)?

Those are the main things that I know I'll be able to afford. If you guys have any suggestions for me please let me know. I am barely able to beat my buddy's GN with a few mods and 20psi, I really want to beat him this summer.

Forgot to mention my driving style: I launch at around 4k, any more and it seems to spin even if I heat the tires up a bit. I've tried shifting anywhere from 6k-7k (read off my autometer gauge with rev limiter removed through EEC tuner) and it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I consider myself a decently fast shifter, especially the 1-2 shift, no power shifting however. I cross the line just getting into 4th (which probably is killing some mph) since I don’t know if I want to take it above 7k.

Sorry if this isn't too coherent, 14hours of studying for finals will do that to a person.

*on edit* I forgot to mention I have 1 5/8's bbk full lenght headers into 2.5" exhaust (h-pipe) and flow master 2 chamber mufflers (no cats).

Try tuning it on a dyno.

But it on a dyno quick, you need to see where you are making power and how ur a/f is. I think you are shifting way to high, try to keep it under 6500 at worse case, but its so hard doing this with a untuned car cause you do not know where the powerband is. Whats the timing? Fuel Pressure, play with them at the track and see what you can come up with. Go with 4cly springs in the front and stock springs out back that will help you out some for sure.

I want to put it on the dyno asap, but it costs money so I'll do at least the cam first. I've played with my timing from 12-16 degrees at the track and it seems to like 14 the best. I need to play with the fuel pressure more though, thanks for the tip on the springs as well.

Ifyour shifting that car over 6k than your over revving it! the cobra is only good till like 5600. the cam is set up for high rpms (like till 6500 if i remember correctly) and the afr heads are good till 6k. Your parts are very mismatched.
the 30s are big, but not your problem.
If you try shifting like 5800, than you should get that up a bit. You should hit up an RPM intake, 70mm t-body and then you will be good. The cam, while a bit outdated, should work fine.

I dont run at Bandi, I live in pueblo durring the summer months (aka drag season) so I race at PMI. Everyone says the track sucks so much that they even run better times a couple thousand more feat above sea level at bandi...

I've tried shifting right at 6k (where i thought the cobra was good till) and it didn't make any difference as opposed to 6.5k... I'll try lower, but if the cobra only goes to 5.6k I'm dropping it for the RPM. The cam however is going no matter what. will the 70mm tb help out that much compaired to the 65mm?

you might even wanna go with a 75mm t-body for that thing. you got the heads to flow it and the intake on the way..... go bigger.

30's are perfect for you. Its possible you leaned it out too much with the regulator. Put the FP to 39psi cavuum off. Its also possible the eec doesn't like your maf/injector combo. If thats not right, the eec will dump in fuel to be 'safe'. I see you have an eec tuner, do you know what your doing? That combo should do 110+ tuned good. Hopping on the dyno for an hour or 2 will be beneficial.

I haven't leaned out the thirtys much, im running around 37psi vac off. The maf/injector combo works good since I had the c&l 76mm before and it idled like crap... I do have an eec tuner and i do know what Im doing. I mainly got it so i could turn off my smog stuff, raise my idle a bit, turn off the rev limiter and add an auto control for my fan down the road, but nothing major. Pulling plugs after each run shows they are nice and tan, maybe even a little rich.
I will do the dyno this summer.
