I really want to buy these heads, but havent been able to get more info from the seller. According to him, they are 1.6 pedestal rockers on there from Scorpion. Anyone know if these are race or endurance series? Also, he said the heads are fully rebuilt... any visual clues as to what has been done? do the intake ports look worked? anything wrong with that paint going onto the spring surfaces? thanks!

I'd be more worried about the fact there looks to be paint inside the exhaust ports. That just screams shoddy work to me. Scorpions aren't really great rockers either. How much is he asking for them?

hes asking 400, what should I offer him to make it a good deal and play it safe, without insulting him?

ok so he got back to me, also has some valve covers, from the description they are these:

he'll take $350 for all, or $300 without covers. should i keep haggling?

about the rebuild, he said new valve guides, seals, etc, whatever the machine shops normally does for a rebuild.

i'd need a spacer to get these to clear the explorer intake I'm also putting on, right?

I was on the fence with the pics, but I gotta side with the others here and say pass. You can get an entire Explorer engine for close to that price, then sell of the short block and get the heads for almost free.

I'd trust nothing anyone says that paints heads without covering anything up.
Those heads area a dime a dozen, pass on them for sure.
It's best to have your own headwork done, it's one of them items that's very hard to prove unless you took them to the shop yourself.

thank you, I most concerned about the head work. you're right. I'd only buy these, then, if it was a steal.

Not sure you fully understand.
With a street value of $250 in good condition to begin with, a steal on these risky heads, is free. He's certainly not going to give them to you.
Find your own set still on an engine, then get some ford racing or crane roller rockers on ebay for around $100.

There is nothing wrong with Scorpion Rockers, very nice pieces...

Now on to the heads, im with the others pass. He painted them while assembled there is paint all over the springs, valves and seals..its hard to tell but they look like e7s to me as well.

I don't know about you, but everything about the pic of those heads screams walk away. I wouldn't have needed a post, one look and I would be onto my next hunt. sorry but you can't atleast tape the ports and paint the head before assembly, highly doubt they where ever apart. scorpion rockers aren't bad maybe people are confusing them with Proform  which are junk IMHO. look for set of "P" heads which flow better or a good set of aluminum in the classifieds.

Buying used heads without seeing them in person is hard enough but then spray everything in blue paint. Shouldn't have even been a question, walk away on pictures alone but then he can't answer questions about them, scratch walking, run!
