I am on ebay right now and i need to know what you guys think is the better clutch out of these two for my 5speed swap:

Ram HD or King Cobra

The ram is just the heavy duty not the power grip or whatever...the one that comes in the red box :D

What is the better clutch for my mostly stock motor but will handle the power (at least for a while) when i build my motor up next winter. Pros and cons and opinions of each would be great. they both come out ot about the same price by the way. thanks

King Cobra works fine

I have a King Cobra, but only 300 miles on the clock so far.
I got it because I read a lot of good things about it. I don't even try, and the thing chirps all the time, and I haven't been above 2000 RPM yet.

I'm sure that in a few days I will be able to lay some down. I might even take a video of it. :nice:

I have a King Cobra and like it...Some say the pedal effort is pretty high but mine seems reasonable...

I've heard to stay away from the FRPP Heavy Duty clutch...Pedal effort is really high...

Watch out on E-bay...When I was looking I saw a clutch adertised as a king cobra by Valeo or something like that...Not an FRPP King Cobra...Claimed they make the clutchs for FRPP...I don't know, but it's probably worth it to get the blue and white box...

BTW paid $165 for a gen-u-whine FRPP King Cobra up at the All Fords at Carlisle begining of June...Good price...

Wel i'll be the oddball and be the one that says they have the RAM HD clutch. Only 3k miles on it but I like it a lot. It's maybe 1/2 the pedal effort on the old clutch that got destroyed to nothing and it grips really well. Don't get the powergrip unless you are racing - it grips like an off/on switch, let it out and it bites hard (well unless you like that sort of thing). I'll still say i've heard of quite a few people destroy the Cobra clutch with a little abuse. Valeo us also btw a large clutch maker and supplies Ram, FRPP, and a few others out there.

I've had both. Don't recall the differences in pedal feel. But here's a little secret about the clutch discs: they're both manufactured by Valeo and sitting side-by-side, you can't tell them apart. BTW, I didn't like either one of them.

Go the extra $30-40 and get a SPEC Stage 1. They're good for 410 lb-ft of torque, which is plenty for the mods you're showing. And probably anything you'll gain with most popular boltons. You can order right from their website.SPEC. I think you'll be looking for an SF481 - $199 +s/h.

as i recall, Valeo is the OEM clutch in our stangs, and also makes the KC clutch. ford often farmed/farms out the manufacturing of parts to other companies (i think it is often similar to the BBK/Walbro fuel pump situation).

Valeo is an very reputable brand, coming from the factory in many high-end italian cars, for instance.

that said, i know what you mean about the icky feeling - esp if the same part can be found from a non-auction-site vendor.......

Valeo is the stock clutch which was made for the production mustang, but i doubt it's a king cobra and you're just gonna get ripped off. i went with a dual friction centerforce myself and i love it. i can chirp all the way up to 4th without even trying.
