i can not get my crossmember out for the life of me, i've gotten the bolt and nut out on the passenger side bushing, and the two bolts in the middle, but the drivers side, i got the nut off but i can't even get the bolt to move more than 1/8 a turn, i think it's fused to the bushing, any ideas?

The bolt that runs through and the tube it sits in might be bent and thats why it doesn't want to come out. It happened on one of mine. Keep smacking the hell out of it with the hammer and use something to maybe loosen it up form within like PB Blaster or something. If you can at least get it out you can always find a new bolt. Also, try and pull the rubber busing out of the tube and expose the piece inside to see if it's damaged or bent. You can actually hammer out that whole center piece the bolt slides through.

take the weight off the x member by jacking up slightly on the tailshaft, then hit the bolt with a bigger hammer, it'll come off.

i have all the weight off of it, i have a jack under the tranny and i can move the cross-member a little bit, thing the bolt and the part it goes through are stuck, like was said above maybe bent, i can get the bolt to turn about 1/8th a turn and it stops, but when it stops it looks like the bushing trys to turn with it

use a sledge. It's only a bushing that you're gonna mess up, and those only cost like $25 for new x member poly bushings.

Beat it too much and you might bend the metal hangar on the body, it's not real heavy duty. It might have corroded enough to fuse together. Your easiest course of action might be to use a cutoff wheel and cut both ends off of the bolt then get a used bolt from the junkyard or hardware store if you can find one the right grade that's long enough.

+1 to cutting the head off and working on getting the old bolt out on a bench rather than under the car.

they're actually right about that. Have you tried wd40ing it yet? if that doesn't work then cut it off. It's just that of all the ones i've ever removed, I've never found one that was stuck that bad.

cut off both ends of the bolt and take the crossmember out. Then, after it's out, you can try to get the bolt out...or just buy the crossmember I have sitting in my shed...lol!!!

i'm chaning the crossmember cuz the one in it is a single hump and i need a double so my exhaust will sit right "it's a 85" i'm gonna try at it again and if i don't get it, it'll have to wait a week or two till i get my aircompressor then i can cut it off and go from that point, so i don't care how much i mess up the current member

Do you have a drill? All you need is a drill bit the size of the shaft of the bolt, a little bit bigger is preffered, and just drill right in the middle of the head bolt.

I have a question related to this topic. Do you guys think OR has anyone been able to swap a crossmember without removing the exhaust? While obviosuly supporting the tranny?

Yeah I Did,OK This is all i did

I had to unbolt the mufflers so the H pipe will drop some. I had to take out all the bolt for the crossmember with a jack under the tranny. I took a angle grinder to the bolt that would not come out. Then wiggeled it out "this was a PITA" but i got it out, but the right one in and bolted up the exhaust

I have an X-pipe, I hope I have room to do it without unbolting any exhaust. But I guess we will see. I am going to change tranny mounts while I'm at it.

I am able to by unbolting the catback, and loosening the H pipe bolts so that it can hang down lower. It's still gotta be twisted and turned just a specific way for it to go in or come out, but it's doable.
