I'm currently rebuilding the motor in my ltd, and looking for some opinions on a good h/c/i combo. Right now i'm looking at the afr 165's(185's?) and tfs stage1 cam. Any tought on a good intake to round ot the combination? I'm not stuck on the heads or cam so any other recomendations on them? The motor is a 306 forged crank/rods/pistons. Its also probably gonna get a 6lb vortech. thanks for the help

If you plan for a sc in the somewhat near future i would go with the 185's. As for intake there are plenty of good intakes out there trickflow track heat, RPM2, ect... Any of them will work great. For those of us that have little experience putting together combos, myself included, the trickflow makes a kit, get the track heat, that will give you good power for the buck. With your combo you could expect 300 rwhp or more. The kit is nice because it comes with head, intake, cam, pushrods, rocker arms, and most other supporting pieces. This way you dont have to worry about everything fitting together. But the choice it yours.

A good intake for idle to 5800 is the performer. The street heat is better from mid to high rpm.

Which vehicle? Auto or manual? Rear end ratio? How will it be used? Emissions? Fuel mileage? Carbed or efi? What kind of shape is the short block in?

Before you can select or others can help the single most important part of the process is you getting clear about what you're trying to accomplish. Which part of that 'idle to 5800 rpm' range is most important to you -- idle to 3000 (where most street use is); 2500-4500 (midrange) or 4000-5800? The answer to that along with the other bits will likely dictate your cam choice.

I'd suggest going here ( http://www.wighat.com/fcr3/ ) opening all the tabs and reading about cams. It's the area where you can make the biggest mistake. I'd suggest letting one of the custom designers help you with your cam choice. Not much more expensive than an off the shelf (relative to what you're spending) -- but much better choices can be made. Buddy Rawls did my custom cam -- best choice I made in the entire engine.

thanks for the link looks like I have some reading to do. As for the rest its an aod, 8.8 with 4.30's, short block has 0 miles, EFI, fuel milage and emissions are not really a concern, and its going in the 84 LTD. I'm looking for more of the 0-3000rpm range but I don't want it to fall on its face above 3000 either.
thanks
