Help With Trans To Bellhousing Rounded Bolt

Hoping someone has some advice that will help me out....

Trying to remove the transmission from the bellhousing and was on the last bolt (the top one on the drivers side) and I have started to round the bolt. Using a 15mm socket if you apply too much pressure it just slips and the socket spins. I have used PB blaster and tried to heat it up and nothing is working.... anyone have any advice on how to get this stupid thing out?

Couple of things.

Ger a line wrench in the correct size- they are used for brake and trans lines and grab the bolt on the face not on the corners so it won't round off the ends. That should work but if it doesn't then take a 9/16 impact socket and slap it on with a hammer and then it will come off. You'll just need to get a new bolt.

Be careful not to snap the bolt off in the block or you will then need to easy out the rest of the bolt.

take the trani out with the bell housing still bolted to the trani , then you might have to drill the bolt out from inside the bell

Thanks for the replies guys. I went out and bought a line wrench (same thing as the flare nut wrench right? Looks the same) and those bolt remover sockets also... plan to try the wrench first, then the sockets, and if all else fails I will attempt to remove it with the bell housing and tranny still attached....

Okay, got the thing out. So I guess the magic thing to do in this situation is to... turn the ratchet the right damn direction. That's right, I finally realized I was tightening the bolt instead of loosening it. Sigh. Anyways, using a 15mm 6 pt socket and a swivel and an extension and my jack handle as a breaker bar, it came out. Thanks for everyone's help!

I always remove the hardest to get at bolt first. 6 point socket whenever possible. Extra leverage with a bar or whatever so you can focus on keeping the tool square and flush on the bolt. On the hardest to get at fasteners, your first effort is the most important. Dont cut corners. If you don't have the right tool handy, stop and go get it.

Righty tighty, lefty loosy!

And those damaged nut/bolt removers are awesome.
Even work on certain types of locking lug nuts.
used them to remove the lugs off a rear disc focus at the wrecking yard not too long ago.

I'll be converting my brothers focus, soon as I have time.

Yeah I'm guessing the being turned around on my back with a swivel and some extensions and a breaker bar got to me and I went wrong.... wasn't until I put a ratchet on it that I realized... sigh. The things you learn.

Then after that my bell housing was practically glued on.... took me about two hours to get it off, and I assure you I wasn't being gentle with it. Everything I read online said make sure it doesn't fall off on your face but mine wouldn't budge.... after spraying pb blaster everywhere I could reach and yanking on it for another 15 mins it finally popped off......

That's what a big rubber hammer is for... Beat on things without doing any real damage to them.
Several smacks to the bottom front side of the block plate will usually loosen things up enough to come off without any problems.
