K, i have a quick question. I took my car today to one of those self service car wash bays and i was planning on using a bucket and washing it by hand, but it was packed and there were signs stating no bucket or hand washing. So, I comprimsed which was not good. I hosed the car down, then i used the high pressure soap option and soaped down the car then took a wool mit and I thought that it would be ok to keep applying soap as I washed it down with teh mit, for the lubrication and such. Well i guess teh lubrication SUCKS! I now have all light scratches on my once almost flawless paint job, minus a few scrathes. So i am pretty pissed off at my self. I tried some meguiars swirl remover #9 or something (professional series) on my wing and it seemed to help. I'm hoping that in the spring time I can totally wash down my car by hand at my house (i'm at college) and give it the full treatment. Now here is my question. Should I clay bar it, then use the swirl remover, and then buy some of the new NXT wax? Do you think that this should hide all the light scrathes? They are not deep scratches or anything, i dont know if they are just scrathes in the wax or lightly scrated the clear coat. Has this happened to anyone else and what did you do? Any help would be much appreciated. Next time i do this, i'm going after they close so that I can hand wash it with my own bucket and soap, or i'll just use the touchless till i go home. WHAT a STUPID, STUPID, STUPID mistake.

Wool? Cotton is what you are supposed to use. %100 cotton.
Anyways I guess it is too late for this. I am sure the scrathes are not too deep and you will be able to get rid of them with mag. scratch remover. I don't think claybar will help with scratches tho.

I have always used a "wool" or something like that it supposed to be really really good b/c it is soft and has long fibers to take away the dirt. Anyways, i have always used one at home and it has worked fine. I went to pepboys the other day and they had a cheaper imitation one, that I thought would be ok b/c they didnt have the other one (remember i'm at school in philly, not home). But i guess i was wrong...maybe that is what scratched it a stupid imitation. My one at home has leather inside, this one was like elastic or something: damn you turtle wax ****ty products.

Here is the best solution to you guys who don't have a garage or a place to properly wash your car.

Quick and Easy wash is a product that is designed for campers and the like who don't always have access to a hose. It is designed with a lot of lubricity to prevent scratching and to be wiped off rather than needing to be rinsed off with a hose.

Get yourself 2 buckets, one for the QEW mix and the other as a clean rinse bucket for your washmitt. Get 2 good sheepskin washmitts. Look inside they should look like raw leather.

You can fill both buckets with clean water from your kitchen and you should be able to wash your car wherever. You wash one section at a time and wipe it off and move on to the next until the whole car is done. Save the wheels and tires for last and use what remaining QEW you have with a good soft brush. I would use microfiber towels to wipe down the paint rather than cotton. Save the cotton to wipe down the wheel wells, wheels and tires.

About the swirl marks you have now, #9 should be able to handle them for the most part. It make take several applications, don't expect them to come off in the same amount of time it took to put them in
