finally got off my lazy ass and got a job :nice:

Since September Ive been getting by off my GI Bill and unemployment. It wasnt bad at all, but by no means was I rolling in money. In fact until November, I was $3k in credit card debt because it took 2 months for my unemployment to start coming in and 3 months for my GI Bill to kick in. When they did I got a nice lump sum of back payments and had it pretty good. Paid down my credit card and treated myself to some mods ;)

Anyway, unemployment ran out a month ago and my GI Bill will stop when the semester is over. I was starting to get worried bc I have rent, car payment/insurance, utilities, cell phone, etc......got a job interview 2 fridays ago and thought I nailed it, they even asked me to take a piss test that day. 12 days later I was sure they gave the job to someone else, then about 30 minutes ago I got a call :nice:

Its not a spectacular job but remember Im a full-time student, and I'll be paid $12/hr, FULL Medical/Dental ( ), and Tuition Reimbursement! (they'll give me a check for $3k at the end of the semester, can you say "Mongoose Kit!"). Im pretty psyched right now. Im not going to count my chickens befer they're hatched, but you better believe with my tax return coming + a few bones Ive made from selling my Drag Radials, Longtubes will be installed shortly :nice:

Sounds badass. I need a job like that while in college. If its a big company, tell me which one so i can apply here in Houston lol. 8.50/hr at Home Depot ain't cutting it

I'll be doing Courrier service for FedEx part-time. My military experience helped out quite a bit the guy said (i was a production coordinator for a HUGE C-130 operation. Parts, supply/demand, you get the picture). The job I applied for started @ $10.70/hr, but they offered me a courrier position making a bit more. Again, its not a glamorous job but I cant turn it down, especially with the benefits :nice:

As far as the tuition reimbursment, I know its applicable for undergrad degrees, for graduate degrees its more like and application process and it can go either way, more than likely they wont reimburs you for a grad degree class, but you may get 25% out of it if nothing else. I'll let you know the more I find out.

If you live in the greater Little Rock area, I may be delivering your next part :)

Congrats! Now you can replace your cat-back like every other month! :D

Careful if you're getting reimbursed by GI bill for school and tapping into your new job at the same time. Also, make sure they take taxes out of that tuition reimbursement, then you can claim the tuition on your taxes for an education credit and get another 1500 bucks back in tax credits at the end of the year. They don't tax that reimbursement, can't claim the credit.

elaborate please?

I'll keep that in mind about the tax thing. Right now my GI Bill is killing me on education credits. All the books plus tuition and Im still not getting a dime back :(

Well if the job knows you're getting paid for school already....they won't pay you again. At least most companies wouldn't. I'm not an expert on the subject because I've never been in the service...but I'd check into it before I went accepting 2 checks! Hate to see you have to send Fed Ex your new mongoose kit :nono:

Fed Ex, damn i was close. Well have fun. If you doing what i think you are (driving the deliverly trucks) you'll have a blast. Some of my friends drove part time for UPS and they beat the hell out of those poor trucks. One friend said that his truck lives at redline. Just don't fall out like i almost did when i was trying to drift one truck around the gravel parking lot we had.

I see. Here's how the GI Bill works. YES, its intended to pay for education. What they do is after each month, the VA rep from my school sends an enrollment verification form to the VA. After the VA reviews it, they deposit $1184 directly into my bank account. I didnt get my first GI Bill payment until November, so I had to use student loans to pay for school. So now schools payed for for the year and I get $1184 each month from the VA. This money goes towards books, rent, utilities, food and other bills. Now technically thats not all education expenses, but if I lived on campus tuition would be almost 2x as much for room n board, etc......I live off campus, so essentially Im using the money for the same thing someone who lives on campus would; room and board.

To be honest, I really dont think the VA gives a **** what you spend the money on. I feel this was because: a) the VA rep at my school told me so, as long as the university verifies Im enrolled, they send the money. And b) they deposit the money directly into my checking account. If they really wanted to make sure it went towards education, why not send the money to the school or the bank I have my loans through?

As far as the Mongoose kit comment, I wouldnt do that, although the temptation is there. I hate being in debt, paying off my loans while im in school would be kick ass :nice:
Wonder if they'll let you put the ol' LM I on one of their trucks?
I already sold them, but damn thats an idea! :rlaugh:
