Such a misleading question. Lots of engines have and have had a Hemispherical head *design* but unless its a chrysler product you cant really call it a "Hemi".
Chrysler first designed the "Hemi " in '39 for an airplane. It was a V-16.

Diamler Benz designed the hemi. Chrysler bought the rights to build it shortly after the Second World War.

The question needs a bit more explanation though. Most dual overhead cam engines are "hemi's" and such engines were around befoe the 1920's. I assumed you meant the pushrod design that we commonly refer to as a "hemi"

ok... the company that originally came up with the design for a hemi or hemi style head. hint* the design never left the drawing board. untill much later in the game when another company had allready made it famous.
hrm... I think your right... after doing some research on it I cant find anything to support it.... someone that I thought new quite a buit about this stuff told me that ford came up with the idea but never went through with it because they didnt think it would work, or be worth anything or whatnot... wich could be, but after researching it I find nothing to support it, so oopsstock50LX said:But I mean that in a kind and formative way

didnt desoto have a small hemi head enginge, shortly before mopar came out with the little brother to the 392?

it's funny that you say/ask this cause i think they did when did the 392 come out? cause the guy we got our 80 from had i beleive a 56 desoto i think that was the year of it that had a hemi in it from the factory. peaceddonaca351 said:
