Due to circumstances beyond my control, I had to sell my 02 gt vert 4 years ago. I just today got to drive a 08 v-6 rental. I couldn't believe how cheap it felt. I was very disapointed. I loved my 02 gt and always thought about getting a new gt. The v-6 rental was NOISY. The doors sounded CHEAP when I slamed them closed. The engin sounded like it was in the cabin with you. I have to tell ya' I might be keeping my 02 ranger edge a little while longer if the dealers new cars are as noisy. Is this just a cheaply built rental car or are all the 08's built t the same Spec's?-Al

If I may retort, I don't know what the deal is with your rental unless it's a chevy with mustang badging, cause I have an 07 GT. It's one of the most solidly built cars I have owned. It's way better than the 2000 GT I drove for awhile. It plants it's feet in the curves and it's built so well, that it doesn't really require frame tie's like the older stangs. The retro stangs are all that and a bag of chips.

Thanks for the reply, I will someday own another Mustang GT. If Ford is building special "cheap" rental cars, that is not giving the MoCo a good reputation. The Company needs to do a better job convincing other car owners to switch to Ford. This rental car will keep them away in droves. I agree, My 02 was a quality car I was happy with.-Al

Rental cars get beat to crap. While there are some rattles, it should be expected from a Ford. I came from a 2003 GT, and these new ones are leaps and bounds above the previous ones is pretty much every department. Most people who have converted will say the same. The only thing better on the SN95 is the 2V/4V exhaust note.

I agree. I went from a 2000 GT 'vert to a 2006 GT 'vert. The '06 is solid as a tank. Probably the best car I have ever owned.

The one thing I've learned about ppl is everybody has there own opinions on most everything. They may not be the greatest of made cars but mine is holding up well for 58k on it. The sad thing imo is the $70k kr is the same car as the $20k V6.

I guess what I'm trying to find out is, do the rental fleet mustangs/fords/ect have less sound deadening in them than a regular prodution car? My Ranger Edge, and both of my older mustangs, 2000 gt and 2002 gt werent as noisy, (not rattles) but road and engine noise in the interior. Ford used to be, in IMHO, a quality car. I'm sure some one out there probably has some insighte into this. Thanks-Al

I rented an '07 V6 convertible just to get it out of my system but instead it got me hooked. (drove it like a rental, whipped it around and had a grand time) I was also quite impressed by its power.

Anyway, it seemed fine to me.

I think the power was ok. It was very much like my 65 when I was a Kid.(289 w/3spd stik) maybe I was expecting too much from the car. -Al

My 07 was a rental for the first 20k miles of its life and it drives just fine. It is a bit loud, and does have a rattle or two at high speeds on the turnpike, but it's a mustang not a Mercedes. *shrug* Of course I did buy a full bumper to bumper 60k warranty with the car, just in case

I travel for my job and rent a car every single week. I often get v6 mustangs. They are NOTHING like the GT's in terms of comfort and interior style. I will say, however, that they are a significant step up from the 2000 V6 that I owned before my 08 GT.

I had a 01 GT and I loved that car, I miss it a lot and thought it was more fun to drive then my new 08 is. But I have to say that the 08s interior is quite a bit better then the 01s was. It's also quieter to. I had my 01 for 4-5 years and put 60,000 miles on it before it was totaled.

Best advice I can give you is goto your dealership and take a new Mustang for a ride.

This is what I was hoping to hear! The last thing I want to see is any of our domestic Auto companies to go under. Building, IMHO, a fleet car like these is just bad publiity and advertising at a time when they need to woo all the new customers away from foriegn MOCOS. - Al

Most rental cars get flogged and beat to within an inch of death. No one takes care of a rental.

Pot hole? Go right through the middle.
Curb? What curb?
Speed bumps? Let me see how fast can I go over them.

People beat the crap out of rentals and that's why they are noisy and ride so bad.

I rented an 07 6 cyl coupe in Vegas and it was nice and tight. Only thing I did not like was the headrests, as I felt they obstructed my view way to much. That is the one thing that could keep me from purchasing a new Stang even with incentives of $4k that expire today July 31.

I took a rental V6 to a rallycross, the weekend I was trying it out. The base interior is cheap compared to the GT, and the V6 has been referred to as tractor-like, but overall a solid car. It's why I decided to get a Mustang.

My Ford dealer loaned me a V6 vert for a parade in June of last year, and I was very happy with it. This was the first S197 I drove, and I liked the rumble of the exhaust, and the car had plenty of zip for a 6. This was a used rental car, but it wasn't beat on very much as it was very solid. Nice enough that it pushed me to buy a GT vert in September, a year before I planned to start looking.

I have to add to that:

Opening doors with their feet.

Closing doors by slamming the glass.

Not knowing how to get into the back seat so forcing the seat down without using the controls.

Slamming on the brakes.

Flooring the car too often.

Pushing the mirrors by hand although they are power mirrors.

Spilling drinks into the control buttons.

That can be fixed with one of those resonator style exhaust systems. I wish I had known about that before.
