Finally got around to installing some HID's from Standmods.com that a member on here (MrGame) sold me months ago (thanks buddy!).

They are great, and even at 8000k they are not "too blue" and illuminate better than silverstars even in stock housings

Good question, and valid request! The car is sitting outside tonight (put the bike in before the car, oops haha ) but basicially I used 6mm bolts/nuts/large washers on existing holes in the core support/bumper stay thingy piece (the "upper" part that the radiator cover mounts to) then I zip tied the "control module" that is required for the high/low beam control to the hood opening cable with some zip ties to keep it out of the way. I'll try to snap some pics soon, but it's pretty self explanatory if you get under there... and with the cover on it's 100% stealth...all you see is the ground wires connected to the green ground bolts in each front corner of the car.

No offense, but that glare is horrible. The stock mustang halogen reflector headlight was simply not made for HID bulbs.

Isn't it projecting light a tiny bit too high?? Looks good but seems like you may be blinding people........ hard to tell from the pics

Driveway is on an incline, they are actually on the low side, and the high beams are just perfect

Pshh - there is no more glare than stock. A light is a light, HID in a reflector housing is same as people running halogens in a projector housing. An HID in a projector housing is going to look better, sure, but these don't work any WORSE than stock, and they are quite clear. I think the "glare" you are seeing is my little Aiptek cameras inability to properly set white balance in low light situations lol

not trying to hijack this thread but about a month ago i sent my headlights out to retrosolutions to do a full projector retrofit, they used ece spec valeo projectors and they turned out great, i don't have a good digital camera yet so for now i'll post the only picture i have of how the projector looks in the factory housing, when i get around to taking quality pics i'll make a post

There is a little bit of engineering behind headlight design with both halogens and HID's. I'm not gonna get into it here though, but a properly designed HID setup is pretty damn sweet and effective.

You just can't achieve the same effectiveness with a plug-n-play kit in a halogen reflector housing. In fact, on www.hidforums.com, they frown on PnP kits completely.

I was referring to aftermarket projector housings for our cars that people throw stock bulbs in. Also, I realize that a plug n play kit isn't an end all HID solution...but the dispersal pattern is the same as my silverstars...and I like the color/look...and they are brighter so WHATEVA!

I had factory HID's in my last car...and in the car before that; I know the benefits of a proper setup - but heck, these ain't too shabby! And the price I payed for them wouldn't even get me a single one of the bulbs brand new LOL! It was worth it, 100%. Projectors would be better...but hey, I'm not made of money!!!

Nope. Gonna get rid of the car next year, and I got to the point where I had to have a stainless steel plate made to mount the projectors into the new headlight housing. I was 3/4 of the way there to completion, but I just couldn't seem to find the time to finish and sold all the parts I accumulated.

Look at the two humps in the middle of your respective beams. That's glare, and there is a LOT more of it whether or not you wish to admit it. Halogen bulbs in our oem housings do not produce that glare you see in your video.

An HID bulb of a certain wattage compared to a halogen bulb of the same or more wattage is like night and day. The lumen output is on an entirely different level, but whatever. I had a PNP kit, and I sold it due to the glare and the fact that I didn't want to blind oncoming traffic.

Now, is it worth the price? To you, the driver, yes. To others in front of you or approaching you, no.

Thats they point they are trying to make. You dont want them to light up the whole wall as that means it is also lighting up the eyes of oncoming traffic.

Exactly. If it's lighting up the whole wall, then the cutoff line is incorrect or non-existent.


There are HID reflector setups. The '08 Mustang uses them. They use a special bulb called a D2R which is designed for reflector housings. The top of the bulb is painted black to reduce light output. Also the reflector housing on an HID light is designed differently than a halogen housing reflector. The intensity is greater so excess light above the cutoff with a halogen may be fine, but since the HID light intensity it greater, the problem is much worse.

They look awesome as hell and do light up the road well. But *most* setups just blind other people on the road. It's more of a "I don't care about anyone else as long as I can see and it looks good" sort of mentality.

I've been blinded plenty of times by Mustangs with PnP kits.

The cutoff on this kit really isn't that bad, the video makes it look much worse, I'll have to snap some pics with the real camera.
