Hey Guys,

For the past 2 weeks, I have been experiencing a High idle and hard shifting on my 99 GT 5 speed.

here's what happens....

I start up the car (sat over night) and no problems. Once the car warms to operating temp, the idle goes up to 3000 rpms and stays there when sitting at a light. If I push in the clutch and slowly let it out (but not all the way out), the idle starts dropping to norm (700) but I have to hold the clutch in this position at all times while stopped to keep the rpm's from going back up. If I turn off the car and back on the problem goes a way but returns after a few minutes.

It also becomes very hard to shift gears and almost impossible to get it into reverse.

A year ago I had a new clutch put in at the ford service center. no problems til now.

I took the car to a mech who said the tranny (I changed the fluid within the past year) was on its way out and would be $1500.00 + to rebuild it. the car has 93,000 + miles on it.

Do you gus think this mech is on target as I have also learned that the problem may be the pilot bearing instead?

what do you guys think?

my mods = accufab 75mm TB, 75 mm C&L plenum, 1/2" intake spacer, Mustang CAI

Thanks,

Techsent

Reverse is always a b1tch in these cars so that is not my concern. However, if it's hard to shift into gear with the clutch fully engaged, it may be a bent shift fork or bad synchronizers. Usually 1st and 2nd gear are the hardest to shift into. If you are having to use extreme force to shift, I would assume you need a rebuild. If that is the case, now might be a good time for an upgraded transmission if money permits. I like the TKO600 personally.

the98stang,

You're right, shifting into 1st and 2nd is a nightmare. I figured with the mileage and my hard driving the T45 was gonna go soon. The TKO600 looks and reads like what I need.

Thanks for your insight!

Hey 02nightmaregt,

He didn't.

I ended up taking the car to another mech who said it was in fact the clutch and not the tranny. Ofcourse, my one year warranty at Ford expired so these guys replaced the clutch again.

After that the computer relearned the idle and the high idle is now history!!!
