high idle

I'll be driving or just sitting at a stop light and the engine will rev up and stay like this. I will be idling at around 3000rpm with the clutch engaged. I replaced the trottle body and it still did it. So I went to autozone and purchased an idle air intake valve. Now it does it only for a second and then releases it. It acts like it is stuck but I cleaned everything as well. Anyone else have this problem?

do you have a vac leak? some of the AZ IAC's need to be installed upside down (per Rerun ). might double check the new one's instructions, if applicable.

my old car (for like 4 days now) did that sometimes. not that high, but it would rev to 2000 then down to where it would barely still be running.....very rarely stall . and sometimes it would stay at 2000. id turn it off, back on, and it was good sorry cant help, i never messed with it.

my car did the exact same thing, it was my tps. just a suggestion. next thing that would come to mind would be vac leak as hissin suggested.

I think the TPS is self-adjusting, try disconnecting your battery for about 30 minutes, then reconnect it. If I'm thinking of the right thing, even if you adjust your TPS yourself, it resets itself later. Maybe I'm thinking of something else, but try the battery thing.

nope tps gets 5 volts sent to it and act just like a light dimmer , output is based on how far its turned ...disconnecting the battery will not reset it ....

once you get the idle set , set it to .93-.99 volts with a digital voltmeter.....

What am I thinking of then that resets itself everytime the car is shut off? I used to know...

the puter is supposed to reset the TPS (zero it out in a baseline initial reading) upon start up. if it is more than +/-25% off, it can toss a code.

the TPS is like a rheostat, as 2002 said. disconnecting the battery will clear the puter of its [old previously learned] settings, and it will start over again. this helps with quicker learning.
