high volume or standard oil pump

im building a 331 street car,occasional race.i need opinions on which one you would use.im using a canton oil pan,thanks

I'd say a stock style pump, how many RPM's do you plan to turn?

As a general rule any engine that runs less than 7,000 RPMs does not need either a deep sump pan or a HV oil pump.

Having said that if you already have the canton pan you will benefit from the HV pump - the reason you should stay with a stock style pump on a normal oil pan, is that during high RPM launches and power shifts you can actually suck the pan dry - not the case on the 7 qt pans.

I'd go with the standard volume pump - it is adequate for your application, and takes less power to run.

I agree Canton 7 quart pan use a HD pump it dont take much more power to operate it either!
