HiPo 289 Camshaft Specs

I am looking for the specs of the factory cam in the 65 K code, also the specs for the LeMans cam.

Has anybody ran the LeMans cam on a street car with good results or is it to much?

Any particular reason you want to stay with the 40+ year old sticks? Lots of new and improved parts to be had to day....

Comp Cams catalogs a couple of Hi-po cams, check em out. One had the factory specs, the other had "improved" specs.

I was wondering what the specs were, to see what was out there in new grinds. I don't want to go overboard and ending up with something that isn't going to be streetable.

Thanks Jack, I have been there, My dad's car is in the registry, but mine has been in storage for some 15 years and I forgot to put it in there when I got it out. I'll register mine here soon.

My cam is fine, car runs great, but being a male makes me want to make it stronger running than it already is.lol

Hipo cam specs:
Part Number C3OZ-6250-C
Application: 63-67 289 HiPo (and 68 service)
Lifter: Mechanical, lash 0.019"
Intake events: open 46* BTC, 12* ATC; close 80* ABC, 26* ABC (not sure what 2nd number means)
Exhaust events: open 94* BBC, 36* BBC; close 36* ATC, 22* BTC
Duration: 310* both I/E
Lobe lift: 0.298" lobe, 0.480" valve
Overlap: 82*
Mark: VE (between distributor gear and first journal

For comparison, the stock 289/302 (65-72) cam shaft specs are:
Part Number C3AZ-6250-V
Application: 65-66 289, 68-72 302
Lifter: Hydraulic
Intake events: open 16* BTC, 40* ATC; close 70* ABC, 8* ABC Exhaust events: open 44* BBC, 1* BBC; close 20* ATC, 27* BTC
Duration: 266*/244* I/E
Lobe lift: 0.230"/0.237" I/E (lobe), 0.360"/0.80" I/E (valve)
Overlap: 36*
Mark: UA (between last lobe and journal)

There seem to be at least two Boss 302 cam specs, DOZZ-6250-A (290* duration, 58* overlap and 0.477" valve lift) and D0ZX-6250-B (324* duration, 114* overlap and 0.589" valve lift). The second is more like the B2 spec I remember. The first seems like a solid lifter version of the standard hydraulic lifter C9OZ-6250-C over-the-counter cam.

I hope this helps. Sorry I don't have the specs for the Le Mans cam. I do have more complete specs for the B302 cams listed above if needed. I'm sorry I don't have the source listed--this was something I have on an Excel spreadsheet from long ago.

Thanks, I have the specs for the LeMans cam from a picture I found on e-bay a few years back from an NOS LeMans cam he was trying to sell.

For anybody wondering about it, it runs
I- 318 degrees E-304degrees
Lift .510"
Part number is C7FE-6250-A

It doesn't seem to be that much hotter to me. I'm sure the technology has changed alot over the last 40+ years. I'll run what I have for now, but knowledge is everything in life. The 282 cam looks like fun, maybe I'll change it later to that and see how it runs.

Lobe lift: 0.330" lobe, 0.510" valve
Overlap: 94*
Mark: C7FE-A (Stamped on end of oil shaft)

You need to keep in mind the duration specs BornInAFord listed are the advertised specs, the @.050 specs are going to be way less with these older cams due to their milder ramp rates. And the Boss 302 lift specs are for 1.72 rockers.

True, that. I listed what would be on the cam card in the 60s when the overall duration was the number many armchair quarterback "racers" would compare. Kind of like advertised HP... Even today many cams are known by the 0.006" not 0.050" lift duration numbers.

I hadn't thought about ramp rates--that's maybe the biggest performance improvement between old and new grinds. Thanks for bringing that into the discussion.

The last cam like this comes to mind-----can't recall who's cam it was, might have been a TRW grind. The advertised duration specs were like 290/300, but the @.050 specs show it to be closer to an "RV" type cam with the @.050 specs around 204-220
