I've never worked on a carb before. My 66 has a Holley 600cfm, and I got some crap in the gas tank, and it wouldn't start. I drained gas out, put new in. I pulled the inlet cover off carb, and found inlet needle valve sticking. I shot it with carb cleaner, put it back together, and it fired, but fuel is leaking now.

What kind of gasket sealer should I use on the inlet bowl cover? What kind of Loctite is used on the screws? Should I replace the inlet valve? Is this a common parts store item?

Thanks

If you had contaminated fuel in the carb, as I am sure you did, you should just rebuild the carb. It would be a good idea to get a book to learn before doing your first one.

All the parts you will need will come with a kit.

You do not need sealer on any part of a carb.

Thanks for the help. I got a book and a carburetor kit and I'm going to try this. One other question- When I put the carburetor back on the manifold, what are the torque specs? (66, 289)

Is there no gasket sealer used on this carb to manifold joint either?

Thanks again, and I apologize for my lack of shop skills. I'm learning a lot just by reading the posts on these forums, although much of it is over my head.
