there is a little article on how to make your own CAI out of some PVC pipe, a couple of clamps, a rubber sleeve and a K&N filter. will this really make any more power or will i be wasting time and money by doing this? i need a project for auto class at school and was wondering is this would be a good idea or not

its not a bad idea really one of the only home made type setups you can really do for your car that is worth doing, you can also put some breathers on the car to keep oil out of the upper intake, but you will get a smell now and then.... so that may not be somewhere you want to go.

you wont make much more power.... if you put the filter in the fender well you should pick up some power but not a massive amount, the only way you will notice is on the dyno numbers you wont feel much of anything the exhaust may sound a bit diff. its just as worth it to buy a ebay cai for 40 bucks and look good

I wouldn't do that. When you use a strict 90 degree bend then you will be causing massive air turbulance which creates friction which reduces air flow. get one for $50 off ebay.
