So my best friend called me the other day to ask a question about a part he needed to find to finish the H.O.O. conversion he was doing. not knowing much about it i was doing some googling, and in the process, i came across some threads on some import foums about make/using home blended race fuel using prem. unleaded and xylene/toulene as a blend. couple of questions if anyone has answers.

Question 1- has anyone seen any verified octane results based on blend
percetages?

Question 2- what if any problems would pop up using said mix in a modern EFI
car? ( meaning, this stuff they are putting in the gas is meant to
be paint stripper! and i'm thinking might be caustic and start
eating stuff. )

Octane boost is minor and it would take a significant amount to really affect octane ratings. I'm talking around 1 gallon of toulene to treat 9 or 10 gallons and it wouldn't give you race gas quality performance either. The solvents could also be detrimental to rubber in the fuel system, so I have heard of some guys adding some trans fluid to the fuel to help offset that.

Plus toulene has got to be around $20 a gallon now. Not cheap if all you are looking to do is boost octane.

I used to work at a paint store and some late model VW guys would buy toulene off of me. Back then it was $16 a gallon. That was in 2005 or so and solvent prices have only gone up since.

Yeah i'm thinking it would be wayyy too much trouble for the work and costs involved. Would be cheaper to buy bulk race fuel. Eventualy i'm going to retire my Stang from D/D and am planning on a dart based 347 TT and figure i will need better than 91 pump gas.
