Hood Flew-up and Damaged Convertible

Yup, no hood pins allowed this to happen yesterday @ 70-75MPH on the highway. Fortunately, I was the only one in the car and no other cars where around. I pulled over to the shoulder at a rolling stop. I have learned this happens more frequently than I care to read about. I plan to get estimates for the repairs. My questions to you fine folks are:

Is the windshield frame repairable? It looks like the crossmember section between the tops of the A-pillars could be removed and replaced. Or, is the scope of this repair much greater?
How much would you "guesstimate" this would cost to repair? I don't want to get ripped-off.
Do you have recommendations to source the parts needed to repair all of this damage? I will need: hood, hood hinges,hood pins, cowl cover, wipers, windshield (and windshield frame?) and probably molding.

Looks repairable. Usually a hood flying up is $2000. +$40 for hood pins this time round.

that really sucks man. its good thats all that happened. you could have been seriously injured if not wrecked the car when it happened. your lucky.

Isn't that both true and ironic? I am unlucky this happened in the first place and lucky this incident didn't cause a wreck and injury to myself or others.

I dont know but those A-pillars look bad. Thats going to be expensive.
Glad you didnt get hurt in all this I know its pretty scary when they go up as I have lost a few hoodsin the past. Another reason to run pins in ANY aftermarket hood.

I am hoping the A-pillars are OK and just the cross-member can be replaced. I looked under the trim pieces and see it is spot welded to the tops of the A-pillars. And in doing so, straighens them up so the top closes and seals. The doors close and windows seem to seal OK against the A-pillars. The top and windows where down when this occurred.

Happened to me at 50mph. Stupid aftermarket hood never latched very well and I paid for it. Luckily the a-pillars were unscathed, but the roof and windshield took the brunt of it. I managed to knock out the roof dent myself. The wipers never worked since.

I managed to find a pretty nice black stock hood for $200 at a scrap yard though

damn your junkyard is high. a hood at the local u pull it is only $35

This hood's paint was mint like it came off a brand new car and a perfect color match so it was worth it to me over prepping/painting a new or used hood. It also came from a Pheonix based mustang specific place which also didn't help the cost.

UH Oh, I have the same style hood. But it closes tight and has metal latches unlike other aftermarket hoods. It does not move in the wind. Was yours the same as this??

Yes, the latch area is reinforced with metal plates. Somehow, the hood came loose from the latch. With all the carnage, it is impossible right now to determine root cause. "Cobra R Part - 117" is stamped underneath the driver's side front part of the hood. I think my hood is an older Cervini's brand hood. Although I can't find Cervini stamped anywhere.

This is where comprehensive insurance pays off. I'm guessing you didn't carry any. Tough break but as others noted it could have been more serious.

Thanks. Yes your hood has more of a slant near the windshield whereas mine is more perpendicular. I think I have a different hood but I may be getting pins now. Thanks for the heads up.

BTW I think there was a recall on original ford latches. Mine is new because I was in a light front end collision a coupla years ago.

I think your A-pillars are fine. They are really strong on the convertible models. It's not a lot to repair, but it's going to nickel and dime you to death. Paint matching alone gets expensive.

Thats the killer trying to match the opal paint, It aint going to happen. Dont ask how i know.
