Hood Pins?

I'm going to being a fiberglass cobra R style hood pretty soon. Maybe even this weekend.

A lot of the mustang catalogs I have say hood pins are recommended with a fiberglass hood. Is it really necessary? I don't really care for the look of them in most cases but it will save me from having a hood fly off I don't mind putting them on.

i dont have hood pins on my cobra svo fiberglass hood ! never had it fly off ! have had it on the car now for about 6 years been to Woodward dream cruise and back and lots of driving in the summer . never had a problem yet just buy a good quality hood and it should fit and line up no probs i got mine from ABC fiberglass in Texas if i remember right! if you want to see it take a look at the thread pics of my car that's my ride! If boss inc. , cervinis or harwood didn't make it you should use them. They don't all look bad. You just haft to spend more for the nicer pin kits. This has a hood pin kit made for a 69-70 mopar. The scuff plate is not flat and cheap looking like te other kits.

I believe they recommend pins because you dont want to slam the fiberglass hood to hard.

However i have a fiberglass hood with no pins, and slam it all the time with no problems lol.

I have had two stock hoods flip up but never had a fiberglass one do it
If you are planning on frequent tripple digit speeds it would be cheep insurance.

I've seen too many hoods come up. Too many broken windshields, dented roofs, bent in cowl panels, and busted cowl grilles to not run hoodpins. Actually, I run pins AND the latch. When you pull the pins on mine, the hood pops up a little, but catches on the latch, so I have two waves of protection.

Laugh if you like, But I grew up in a body shop. My family owns and runs a restoration shop. Of the 50 or so differant companys fiberglass hoods that I have seen and or have personal experiance with, they are the only three I would be willing to bet the $2-3000 dollars worth of damage. Buying a $200 hood and not running pins so later you can spend 2-3000 bucks to fix damage is crazy. I drive 80mph everyday on the highway and see 110 on wed. and Sat. nights. Sorry, maybe I just have trust issues with cheap plastic

I plan on putting hood pins on my stock hood because I seen and heard too many stories about fox hoods flying open. I can see where the catch on my hood is starting to fracture, and I dont want I to fly open on the highway.

i was just about to post those....they seem like they'd work out nice... have yet to see any on a fox! though looking at the pic on thier site they look kinda big

you only see 110 on wed and sat nights??? ROOKIE!! im just saying i bought a hood from texas from a reputable company have never had it fly off or open and have run low 12s and broke into the 11s with slicks and NOS all night long! mind you only on friday nights!

If so, I still think they look cleaner, and more discreet than regular hood pins, and I think they're paintable.

glass hoods flex at speed...they can, and often do flex enough to escape the lip of the factory locking arm. Mine was secure and fine for months and months...then one day at 60MPH she released and caught on the safety latch. After that I switched to pins. Pins may be a touch unsigtly but they are a significanly safety net against the damage that can occur.

I have the aerocatches on my car, they really arent that much bigger than the conventional hood pin metal plates.

I think that's probaly what I'll get for my car then. So if I have pins it really isn't neseccary to have the stock latch too is it?

I'm running these from Summit Racing. If your careful you can put a slight bend in the flat plate to make it follow the hood curve a little nicer.
