I want these kind of hood pins pretty bad

I saw them on their drift 350z for sema and they were pretty clean compared to normal hood pins.

Step1. Close hood thus engaging stock latch.
Step2. lock hood pins.

How on earth do you not latch the stock mechanism if you shut your hood all the way?
In order to lock the pins the hood needs to be completely shut. refer to step 1.

its usually the cause of people locking the pins but not the latch properly.
If the pins are affecting the latch then they are not installed correctly.

Just so you know, this isnt my first fiberglass hood or mustang. I have ran glass hoods w/ and without pins in the past and ya know what, 2 hoods I have lost were running w/ no pins. Take it for whats its worth but I feel safer w/ them.

People make mistakes.

Anyways I if anyone is intrested I have a brand new set of the hood pins talked about here ill sell someone if they want.

If I install a set of hood pins I will most definitely be ditching the stock latch system as I wouldn't want the extra weight. I never knew guys ran the stock latch system with pins.

i run the frpp hood pins and ditched the stock latch system... never had a problem with it.

Opal,
I have that same hood, I like the look of the pins. I like the safety idea behind them even more.

Can they be moved even further towards the front of the car?

You are kidding about the weight right. I mean what does the latch weigh 1.5lbs?

Im sure you could move them, as long as there is a place to mount them or if you plan on fabbing a mounting point for them. I simply put them where the stock hood bumpers go as there is already a predrilled hole in that spot on the rad support.

Hey! every little bit counts. lol


but every time you shut the hood it would latch so if you had the hood latch and hood pins I think it would be annoying after a while.

I'm serious Rich, it's all the little things that add up. Figure the cable, the big bracket that houses the latch, etc and where its located and its something I'd love to ditch.

I think I'm going to get a set of the aerocatch latches.

My uncle's grand national latches with 8 hood pins only and you can take the hood right off the car to work on it.

This comes in super handy at the track or in the garage, but not in your driveway, because sometimes when you set the hood down your 140 pound Rottweiler walks over it...

Paul,........ I kinda like Adams idea about the lift off hood. If your gonna ditch the stock latch I dont think I would waste time with pin kits and crap. Just buy a lift off, pin on hood and be done. Not only that, it will save you even more weight than a standard bolt on hood and that seems to be one of your main concerns, weight.
