Progress Thread Hoopty v2.0 - It All Snowballed

Powder coat blew my mind. I’m SO happy with the finished product

@FastDriver didn’t wanna clog up Mikes thread.
Not sure why the rods let go. They were stock internals that had lived under boost for about a decade. Could have been fatigue. Maybe my tune wasn’t as safe as I thought it was. Maybe a HG let loose. Dunno.
But I was ready to be done with the turbo. So I’m happy with where it’s headed. Reliable and comfortable.

Switching to this thread was a good idea. Also, I fee like I've met ya, now that I've seen ya on the boobtube.

It's crazy to me that it blew up the same day you fixt the TFS stuff. Just morbid curiousity, now that removing the turbo makes it a moot point, but what did you have total timing at? How was it tuned (Quarterhorse, SCT, pulled spout connector/static timing). In the vid you said you thought it hit a ~15 psi peak... that's quite a bit on a car likely making in the ~300 +/- rwhp range NA, and maybe double that under boost, but I wouldn't expect that to be enough to dynamically disassemble the rods right away. I'd wanna see timing at no more than the ~15-16* range with AFRs in the mid 11s.

Ill have to pull up the tune, its still on Megaquirt. I cant remember what the timing was as I really only go in there maybe once a year, if that. I can say that the AFRs were on the fat side in the low 11s.

I’m realizing in real time that I can’t just slam this back together. There’s going to be a LOT of paint and detail work. I feel like a fish out of water.

Exactly what happened to me! I believe the term the guys around here like to use is “scope creep”. lol. Looking awesome!

Just watched the video and great job!

Have you figured out the Volvo power steering pump is in limp mode? Only puts out about 75% of the pressure. This was a post I made on another site in regards to this issue:

I have no idea if anyone here would want to do this but I will be doing it on my Coyote powered F100 so I thought I would pass it along. You can use the following Volvo electric power steering pumps:

'06 - '08 C70
'05 - '09 S40
'05 - '09 V50

And this company makes a controller the allows the pump's ECU to get out of limp mode and either be manually controlled on the speed or GPS controlled:

Little bit of a wait being they are across the Atlantic but right now they are the only ones that produce the interfaces and are super clean.

I had previously posted the Corral thread but it’s been so li g that I wasn’t sure if the limp mode was addressed.

Oh it definitely is. I’ve been kicking the can down the road because… well I don’t know why. It’s on my to do list.
I finally hooked up the windshield washer fluid line today after what… 6 months? Lol. Baby steps.

How does one square a K member, or does it matter? I measured from the front of the rack mount to the rad support and got 18 7/16” on both sides but I also know that these cars are notorious for not being square. Leave it alone?

I think Maximum Motorsports has an instruction and/or video on how to square the K-member. LMR might as well. All i know (from memory) is they use Plum bobs both front and rear and measure like every direction back/forth and crossways.
