bought an 87 lx 2 months ago with a supposed 88k. did a complete tune up, car runs great and am having fun with it. guy before me only drove it once a month or so and never did any maintenance on it so when i got it i had to tune it up from head to toe. anyway, friend was driving behind me the other day and he said when i stepped on it he could see some blue smoke, he also noticed this when i downshifted. when i had the work done on the car the compression checked good, has plenty of power, the oil was full even though it hadn't been changed in a while. i don't think it's burnining oil, and i don't think the rings are worn or it would be smoking all the time. it was about 50 degrees outside that day and at first i was thinking it was from the cold (the car was warm) until he said it was blue. do not see smoke any other time. i know engines at high rpm's burn a slight more amount of oil than regular driving, but enought to see? don't know if it is no big deal or sign of something to come? i dread the thought of a rebuild already, the car runs strong. please advise.

It was probably just some carbon buildup in the exhaust that you blew out... rev it up in the light in your driveway, if you have burned oil coming out, it should come out all the time.
