Hot water running through EGR spacer

Does anybody know the reasoning behind running hot water through the EGR spacer? Please let me know. I'm talking about a 5.0. Thanks a lot.

Coolant mixture or water through the spacer, is used to cool down the exhaust gases injected through the EGR..... not to prevent TB icing problems as some times mentioned.

93 cobra 5.0's didn't even come with it. it's been suggested that in reality it really does little to nothing.

Nope.... it does. Cobra intakes have a different "heatsink" effect due to the absence of the thin-walled EGR spacer...... the thick casting intake takes care of that. In fox-style intakes though, having an operational EGR and the lack of coolant flow in the spacer, creates a hot spot, which can cause premature TPS sensor failures as I have been able to confirm in Mustangs, CV's, Mercury GM's, Lincolns and F/E trucks.

If the EGR is defective/deleted (no exhaust flow present) there will not be an increase in temp at the spacer.

the old trick of coolant bypassing the EGR spacer is silly and actually hurts more than helps (doesnt help at all actually)

the coolant runnig through the spacer is hot yes, but consider the temp of the exhaust gass running through the spacer. taking the coolant out actually increases the temp of the spacer.

The Hot Coolant is a Lower Temp than the Hot Exhaust.
