Miami, Ok
from summit

We had a friend come down (hard to catch) to check out my torn down 93 5.0 longblock. He is a machinist and has been all his life. He advised my dad when he built mustangs in his youth, he KNOWs his stuff and he is the most knowledgeable guy i know.

He brought some dial things and mics and etc.

Anyway he looked over the parts and its pretty good. The block is great and the pistons looked ok except for 2

One was cracked on the sidewall. and one had the rings seized to the piston.
The corresponding cyl had alum deposits has some wear, i forgot the exact reason. the hone will get id of the alum. But that cyl will need to be sleeved. So thats around 80 for clean and hone and about 70 for the sleeving of the cyl.

He has lots of motors since he is a machinist and has an 87 motor laying around. We are going to tear it down and he will trade us blocks if his is better.

I will go ahead and buy new pistons since i'd rather have a new set. the rods are fine.
He checked the crank and it is fine, will polish it.

The stuff looked to be real good and he said i just need a master rebuild kit with standard bore and bearing sizes.

I am looking at the summit kits. Its around 280$

YES I KNOW I FORGED ALUM PISTONS ARE BETTER AND THAT I SHOULD GET THEM BUT I DONT HAVE THE MONEY RIGHT NOW.
and i think hypereutectic pistons will serve me just fine, i dont plan to be pushing any major power out of the motor and i dont plan or Nitrous or F/I

My question is, is this a good rebuild kit???
i am just looking for a stock rebuild, I MIGHT toss in an e cam or TFS stage 1
so is this kit fine for what i need???

Then after i build the short block i will either get my heads recond or maybe save for some gt-40s or thumpers....

I have used those kits in the past and they are fine, hard to beat for your money.

My buddy was in the same position needed something quick and cheap since it was his daily driver and he just wanted something that will last.

:nice:
