How do you adjust AOD TV cable?

Not sure if adjusting your TV cable is going to cure the problem you have, but if you want to try...

The proper way to adjust it is to put a low value pressure guage onto the TV porton the tranny. The cable needs to be set so that the gauge reads zero at idle, but jumps up the second the throttle is advanced even the slightest bit.

You will also hear that it should be adjusted so that the TV pressure reads 2 - 5 psi at idle. This is OK too since a little too much TV is better than too little.

If you can't get a pressure guage on it, you ca try this: Remove the TV cable and the adjuster from the throttle linkage. Release the adjuster (how you do this depends on what year you have) so the cable slides through it. Pull the cable forward until it stops, and hold it. Now move the throttle linkage full forward (open). Snap the adjuster back onto the linkage -- you may need an extra pair of hands to help do this. This should also lock the adjuster (not sure about earlier AODs).

You'll be running a slightly high TV this way, but it'll work good enough until you can get it to a shop to have it adjusted properly.

i wouldn't do this myself, any misadjustment can mean total destruction on your tranny in just 1 or two miles

Based on what he described in his other thread I suggested he look at it and make sure it's right. I can't tell if its that or not, but many problems can be traced to the TV cable with the AOD.

I've got the same problem here, and I think part of it has to do with the fact I performed the AOD shuffle at the track (D-1-D). For a while, it refused to upshift until the point I was reving at 5 grand but now it refuses to downshift until the car almost stalls out.

maybe that is a bad convertor that keeps wanting to stay locked. i had a grand am that would not unlock the convertor and everytime i stopped i had to put it in N and then rev it and slam it in gear to burn out and go, this quickly overrevved the engine because it delayed getting into gear once and made the valves start to knock, then on the way home i stepped on it and dropped a valve and tht was the end of that problem. never get any pontiacs or saturns
