This will work too obviously, but I think they're considerably more expensive than mine. I purchased a new iPod 5G Video (30GB) a couple of weeks ago, and the first thing I wanted to do was install it in the 'Stang. I did some research on the 'net with all the Mustang forums, and ended up purchasing the PIE iPod connector, part number FRDN/PC-POD 1998-2005 Ford-to-iPod Interface : http://store.yahoo.com/logjam/piefrdnpcpod.html
My 'Stang is a 2001, equipped with the Mach 460 6CD Changer. The PIE unit plugs into the 20-pin auxiliary CD Changer port on the backside of the head unit. You then plug the interface cable into your iPod. The music plays through your car stereo and you control the iPod through the head unit (and your iPod is constantly being charged while hooked up).
This unit allows you to access the first 6 playlists on your iPod. The first 6 have to be named CD1, CD2, CD3...etc. When you press the CD button on your head unit, you access the 6 CDs that are in your unit. Press it again, and you are now in control of the iPod. You can tell you are controllling your iPod because it says DJ instead of CD on the display. You control the volume, tone, skip forward, skip back, fast forward, reverse, and shuffle as well as access to the 6 playlists (DJ 1, DJ 2, etc).
The instructions that came with the unit were very easy to follow. Only two wire connections are needed. The instructions say that this unit only works with the iPod 3G, 4G, and mini. But, I've confirmed that it does work with my 5G Video.
Only one issue that I've discovered with it. If you are listening to the iPod and shut the vehicle off, turn it back on and listen some more, the time counter for the song stays exactly where it was.. it won't count off the seconds through the song. It will do this until you unplug and reconnect the iPod. Only the slightest of annoyances... but doesn't bother me cuz I've got 30GB of music to blast with the top down. The sound quality is excellent. In my opinion, the iPod interface sounds better than loading up the CD changer with CDs that I've burned from the same MP3s.

This is the pie module. I secured it to part of the dash brace with some velcro strips. That and the sound proofing material keeps it from moving around. The blue arrow is the lower shifterboot, and the three plugs are for the defroster, traction control, and foglights.
Here's the finished product. Nothing too spectacular.
The interface cable runs under the center console and into the center console storage area. I didn't need to drill a hole to pass the cable, the screw holes that secure the rear of the console to the car provide enough room to pass the cable. The mount that I'm using to hold the iPod is a no-name iPod mount that secures with doublesided tape.

are you able to control the music from the IPOD as well? i dont want to even think about changing playlists again to CD1, CD2 etc. i like to hold the ipod in my lap and control the music that way, is that possible?
