How do you measure inches of torque?

I see, do you guys use them when working on your mustangs?

I know certain things on the 5.0 (cam thrust plate for instance) has to be torqued down in in/lbs of torque. I buy only Craftsman tools, I have a 3/8" drive 25-85 ft/lbs torque wrench, and I know they make an in/lb torque wrench as well.

yes, there are wrenches that measure inch lbs. we use them on aircraft all the time, and they arent always small.

Ahh.. a fellow USAF brother sounds like. We have all inch pound torque values on the ejection seats.

:flag: yes sir!

actually im now a vet, i just seperated in august (didnt get my CJR). found out i made SSgt the day after my seperation, go figure. i worked 130's at LRAFB. i forget what the to called for, but reinstalling an engine was a fun job, especially when some short guy was trying to torque the upper two bolts that hold the engine on. they can actually hang on the torque wrench without getting it to click. good times.

I work the A-10's here at DM. I just got my CJR in Sep, the month before our AFSC went on the constraint list.

Yeah, I've seen guys doing similar stuff on the A-10's here.. 2 guys putting all their weight on a long ass breaker bar for the bolts near the engines and the landing gear.

oh and just some gee whiz, well actually its pretty important info. torque wrenches are not to be used for 15% of the lower end of their spectrum. for example, a torque wrench of 50-100 in/lbs should not be used for the first 7.5in/lbs setting. only use them beginning at 57.5 in/lbs. they are not calibrated for the lower 15%. someone said its both the lower and higher ends of the spectrum, i dont know for sure, i honestly forgot. i know you dont use the lower 15% for certain though.
