how fast do you think this will run in the 1/4?

the car rev's from 5k to over 7k like it had a shot of spray or a turbo kicked in all of a sudden

lol.

No it does not. You can sit there and say that it does that all day long, but it simply doesnt. The only intake that will support those RPM's N/A, is an edelbrock Victor Jr, and MAYBE a P51.

The stock camshafts are completely out of breath around 5500rpm.

I promise everything that I own, that if that car has never had any sort of internal work, and is N/A, that by 6,000 RPM, the power is falling off on that car.

Now I am sure you are going to try and say "Well the car must be a factory freak then". No it isnt. Everyone thinks their car is a factory freak until they get outran.

The reason that car is so slow, is because you are revving it to 7,000rpm. Problem solved.

I really hope that 98COBRA will log on and see this thread. He can tell you what it takes to make power in a 2v at 7,000rpm.

+1 to all of this.

I have a calculator in Excel that will calculate the torque on the wheels at every speed from 20 to 160 using the dyno graph of that vehicle and the gear ratios of the transmission and rear end. I can also vary the shift points. Here's a graph of a BONE STOCK 02 GT with 3.27 rear gears (doesn't matter, just shifts the shape of the curve) and 5800 RPM shift points.

As you can see, the torque on the wheels is just falling off at that shift point. 5800 is the shift point that results in the largest area under the curve from 20 mph to 110 mph (I can calculate that, too). Any higher or lower results in less area under the curve. If you go above 5800, the dropoff at the end of each gear is noticeable.

I didn't feel like posting it up, but I also have graphs like this of a bolt-on GT and a full bolt-on/cammed 01 Bullitt. The optimal shift point on the GT is right at 6000, and the shift point for the cammed Bullitt is still only 6300 rpm.

To the OP, all of this means that if your friend is actually revving it to 7000 (or anything over 6000 rpm for that matter), then A) He is an idiot, and B)That's why it's so slow.

my buddy has a 03 gt 5-speed with BBk long tubes, x-pipe with cats and a SLP cat-back the car also has a JLT cold air intake and the BBk throttle-body and Grannittile coil on plugs a predator tunner and 3:73 gears with NT05 275-35-17 rear tires.
hes a fairly good driver but has never had the car faster than the 14's at the track , my 98 cobra runs 13.4 ?? shouldn't his car run close to mine ?
> he just had a fresh tune up done and is looking to take it to the track next week . What should it run?? the car is very healty and runs strong . :flag:

His car should run a mid 13 if he is a good driver. /thread.

:rlaugh: at all the comments.
