How hard to change Distributer?

My Dad needs a new one for is 90 f150 so Im giving him mine and he's getting me an MSD.

Not very hard at all. Just make sure when you take it out you mark the position. I did it in less than 20 minutes and I am just learning the basics of engine maintenance.

Remove the plug wires, coil wire, cap, and electronic connection, and one bolt and lift it out. As said above, make sure to remember how the rotor was oriented (which cylinder was about to fire) and also where it went into the block. Do this on both your dad's truck so you know how to put your dist. into his truck and to your car so you know how to put the MSD in later. That should be it. Once it is installed, if you have a timing light it wouldn't be a bad idea to check the timing. Good luck.

Like they said just take your time.... if anythign just set the motor to top dead center... Then set it with the rotor aroudn 12-1 o-clock.... can be swapped in a few minutes..

I used a closed end 1/2in. Its a PITA but it works eventually.

Parts stores sell special extensions to fit those bolts. Well worth the few dollars they cost.

isn't the ignition module for the trucks mounted on the distributor instead of the firewall like the mustang?

If talking about the hold down bolt, I use 1/4" drive pieces. Two long extensions, a swivel and ratchet take care of it. I need one of those little wrenches though - sounds easier. But 1/4" stuff should work if in a pinch.........

Yeah but the shaft of the MSD has a bigger outside diameter. The tools you get don't like to fit around the bolt head becuase of it. I say get a distributor stud from summit for $5 with the 12 point head. It will let you use a smaller socket. I had to dremel the crap out of my distributor wrench just to get it over the bolt head. Going with the stud next time. . .

Oh and make sure it's tight. The stock clamp doesn't sit on the MSD properly.
